West Side Family Restaurant is a great place to have a relaxed meal. The team is incredibly friendly and attentive. Pork tenderloin sandwich was fried to a perfect crisp and is well seasoned. The cheese curds and jalapeño potato cheddar balls are tasty, as is the baked potato skin.

I was stuck in Grinnell due to a snowstorm for 2 days staying in a hotel and this place was my saving grace. The food was beyond words it was phenomenal, The service was spectacular everybody was friendly and helpful and a joy to be around, and the food I cannot stay enough was just delicious and amazing! I will definitely be eating there anytime I have to go back to Grinnell! And the pecan caramel pie out of this world!

We were on a breakfast finding failed search when we ran across this option. As strangers to the area we weren’t sure where to go and try to avoid the chains as much as possible while on vacation. We thought we were done for on breakfast after the third boarded up place from Google. We found this one, called and they were open and drove a little out of the way hoping it would be good. We arrived and it was very busy. The front staff were very friendly and it appeared every customer knew each other. We were seated quickly and attended to quickly. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin. Signs rated it one of the top five in the country. It was amazing. It tasted like a real pork chop that was pounded not smashed meat and filler like many others. It was definitely tasty and the bun was clearly no match for the tenderloin. I ordered the meat lovers breakfast because the signs on the wall said the owners were pig farmers previously. It was good but very greasy. Ham, sausage and bacon with eggs, home fries and an English muffin. The home fries tasted of old grease but the breakfast was decent. Some of the patrons in a big party were incredibly loud and forgot they were not the only ones in the room which made conversing hard but is not the restaurant’s fault. It did contribute to the four stars for atmosphere. All in all we’d recommend.

Nice, clean little diner with amazing food! Great portions and selection, we are never disappointed. Fridays, the Prime Rib is always a great choice.

Our breakfast was great! Service was quick. We will definitely be back. My husband had the tenderloin skillet and it was out of this world. I had cinnamon roll french toast. Also awesome. Our 3 year old loved his pancake. Mom stole a bite and it was definitely fluffy. We will 100% be back.

The food was just ok. It all tasted processed. The gravy tasted like it came out of a can, the burger was a pre-frozen patty. The pancakes were really good though, and the waiter was very friendly and attentive. I wouldn’t bother going back though.

My first time at the restaurant. I ordered the fish and chips 3 pieces to go. The fish were good size pieces. I have had better fish. I am not a big fan of tartar sauce, but this was pretty good definitely make it themselves. Got a baked potatoes good size lots of butter in the bag, 1 package of sour cream which seem to be enough. I gave it 3 stars because the fish was a bit of a disappointment. Honestly the fish kind of reminded me of frozen Van de Camp fish filets. For 18$ that included a tip I expected much better fish.

Most of our large group liked there meal. My baby back ribs looked and tasted like spare ribs instead and was dried out. I asked for strawberry short cake with ice cream and whipped cream. I was so surprised that it was made with a biscuit instead of angel food cake, also I didn’t get the ice cream. It was a to go desert that I didn’t inspect before leaving. So stupid!

Food was below par. The pork tenderloin did not taste fresh and most likely the oil that was used for deep frying had never been changed in a long time. The barbecue was the worst. It was obvious that they do not make the barbecue daily and they refried refrigerated barbecue meats, which is terrible. The brisket looked and tasted like beef jerky – dry and pathetic. I get it that this is a small town diner, but they would be better off offering smaller and fresher menu. When we got in to the restaurant, it smelled like cigarette. And when the waiter came over it appeared that he also smelled like cigarette. Overall not a pleasant experience.
