We kicked things off with the antipasto salad, which is always a winner…fresh, generous, and easily big enough for two (honestly, probably more). It’s the kind of starter that makes you feel like you already made the right decision before the pizza even hits the table.
And speaking of pizza… there was no way we were leaving without one of their nationally recognized cracker-thin, cornmeal crust pies. We went with sausage and mushroom, and it absolutely delivered. That signature crust is what sets them apart: light, crunchy, and somehow sturdy enough to carry all that goodness without missing a beat.
We also ordered the Goomba sandwich, which showed up looking like it could double as a free weight. Easily a couple pounds of pure deliciousness. After one bite we realized defeat was inevitable and packed the rest to take home.
Service is consistently excellent…friendly, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. It’s the kind of place that feels both legendary and comfortable at the same time.
Wells Brothers came highly recommended by the maître D at a different restaurant last night. His advice was simple: get the meat lovers pizza. That alone was enough to get me through the door, but what I found was a whole lot more than just a solid pie.
This place has been a part of Racine since 1921, started by James and Dominic Wells. It’s still sitting on the same corner of 22nd and Mead. Still run by the Wells family. Still turning out food that speaks to tradition and pride. Today, the fifth generation is involved in the day-to-day, and you can feel that deep-rooted sense of continuity from the moment you walk in.
To warm up, I went with a cup of creamy vegetable and wild rice soup. It was rich and hearty, full of fresh flavor, and clearly made with care. No shortcuts here, just honest, comforting soup done right.
Then came the pizza. I ordered the extra crispy meat lovers, and it delivered on every level. Italian sausage, pepperoni, hamburger, bacon, Canadian bacon, and ham, all layered over a paper-thin crust that was crisp from edge to edge. Every bite had that perfect balance of salty meats, just enough sauce, and a golden layer of melted cheese. It was indulgent but focused, the kind of pizza that reminds you why certain recipes don’t need to change.
What really sets Wells Brothers apart is the atmosphere. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t have to be. It’s welcoming, it’s reliable, and it’s run by people who care deeply about what they serve and the community they serve it to.
Bottom Line: Wells Brothers is more than a local favorite. It’s a piece of Racine history. The meat lovers pizza is worth the trip alone, and the warm, family-run feel makes the whole experience that much better.

I’ve never had such a thin cracker style crust on a pizza. Beyond the fact that it’s the single best crust I’ve ever had, the flavor of the pizza itself is absolutely delicious. Even the next day, if there’s a couple of pieces left over, even though the crust is no longer crunchy, the pizza is absolutely delicious.
