The chips and salsa were really good!
I also love that they have a classic mole option which is vegetarian. There’s a nearby Oaxacan place that specializes in mole, but doesn’t have a classic dark mole that’s vegetarian, so fantastic that we can get that at Welik!
I had a “Create Your Own Combo” with a vegetarian mole enchilada and a Beyond Steak Street Taco. Both of these were super delicious and the memory of them still makes my tongue salivate.
They don’t have a standard liquor license but are able to serve wine and beer and have a special type of wine-based “liqueur” with a similar taste to tequila so they can use that to mix any classic Mexican cocktail you’re looking for. (Okay, full disclosure, it’s not quite as good as actual Tequila, but it can do the job, if you know what I mean.)
Our server, who also happened to be one of the owners, was super-nice and took great care of us. They put a lot of thought and detail into what they create and serve, as opposed to a restaurant that just goes through the motions. It’s well worth checking them out.
Adriana and Ivan’s restaurant is a true gem in Santa Clarita. We’ve been there twice, so far. After our first visit, we said it was our new favorite. After our second visit, we confirmed it.
Their food has a traditional feel but is both plated and flavored with more nuance. Truly remarkable.
My first visit, I had a Chimichanga (not pictured). The tortilla was flaky and light, with delicious shredded chicken and topped Enchilada style. My next visit I had the Enchilada Suizas (pictured). Absolutely amazing. Again, the food is full-flavored but nuanced.. Not overpowering or heavy.
Deb had the Shrimp Enchiladas on her first visit and was so taken with them, she ordered them for our next visit as well. The sauce is light and flavorful. The shrimp prepared perfectly.
If you like Mexican food but also want something that extends the cuisine, this place is it.
The bill can be paid via clover phone app which is really convenient when it gets busy.
The only negative, that wasn’t a real negative; I was hoping for a strong margarita and found out they only do beer/wine. Have no fear, the bartender (Daniel) made me an amazing Cadillac Margarita with an agave wine (24%) and it was great… I had two!
Not only will I be back, I will highly recommend to anyone who listens! *** tostada photo is after I’d already started eating… it was around that time I decided this place needed a review!
I will say that the portions on some items were rather small for the price, however I also didn’t leave feeling completely stuffed, and probably ended up eating the proper amount vs what you get at other places.
The food had so much flavor and was done well. The rice and beans with the entrees were fantastic.
I would definitely go back there again.
We ordered:
– Shredded Chicken Chimichangas & Chimichangas al Carbón with the asada. This had great portions.
– Zarapes – portion of entree was a bit small, but was good nonetheless. The 3 enchiladas sauces was maybe a bit much. Would have been fine with just one of the 3.
– Birria Plate: Good flavor. The salsa on the side with it was delicious, but spicy. The potions on this one were probably the most disappointing. The pieces of meet were tiny and could barely find the amongst all the sauce.
-Sangria: this was DELICIOUS. I would come back just for this drink!
– Sodas: they change $4.95 for soda. A little steep, in my opinion.
