Their Signature Noodles arrived first. A Cantonese style egg sauce with a few fresh prawns over a fried local variety of noodles. The noodles were firm and had a nice bite. Slightly under seasoned, you can add soy sauce to adjust the taste. Do try it with the cut chili as it makes it perfect. Recommended.
Grilled oysters were topped with a light garlic sauce and were perfectly grilled. Squeeze the calamansi lime for some tartness and pop it in your mouth. Recommended.
The tiger prawns were large and filled with roe. The heads were perfect, but the body was topped with cheese and were slightly over grilled, making it somewhat tough and rubbery. The execution could be improved.
The Kat Chai and Three Lime drinks were not the best, but decent enough.
The food here is decent and the price is reasonable. We ordered one seafood each day with fried eggs and vegetables. We also ordered beers. Without the beer the price range per person were between RM40 – RM60 depending on what kind of seafood you ordered.
Overall we are very satisfied
Overall
On our first visit, we tried their signature crab with special sauce. The sauce was rich and flavorful, but the crab itself was average — decent meat quality, though not as thick and firm as Sri Lankan crab, and the shell was a bit soft.
We ordered tiger prawns on both nights — large ones the first night, medium-sized the second. Personally, I loved the butter prawns — perfectly seasoned, creamy, and fragrant. The garlic prawns were also delicious. The prawns were definitely fresher and tastier than the crab — highly recommended!
We also tried their large clams: the first night cooked in soup, the second stir-fried with garlic. Both were outstanding — fresh, plump, and full of natural sweetness.
Another must-try dish is the salt and pepper squid — tender, crispy, and well-seasoned without being overly salty.
Overall, the seafood quality at Da Jia Lai Seafood Restaurant is impressive, with reasonable prices and a huge dining area that spans almost an entire street. There’s both air-conditioned indoor seating and outdoor tables to choose from. Staff are polite and attentive.
If you’re in KK, this place is definitely worth a visit!
Service was generally attentive, The atmosphere is lively and bustling, which adds to the charm, but it can feel slightly crowded. Prices are reasonable for the quality and variety offered.
Overall, a great spot for seafood lovers in KK — definitely worth a visit.
We ordered seafood tofu, lala soup, butter prawns, and dragon whisker vegetables — all were super fresh and flavorful. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dishes came out quite fast too. Definitely a great place to enjoy local seafood when visiting Sabah!
Prices were fair for the quality. The service was quick even during peak hours. Will definitely come back if I’m in KK again.
1. Red grouper steam in special sauce – the sauce overpowered the fish, didn’t taste any freshness
2. Deep fry squid – crunchy, not bad
3. Crab dry butter milk – Nicely done, it’s nice
4. Prawn Kam Heong – Prawns are fresh, nice
5. Clam soup – Watery, not much fresh seafood taste
6. Seafood tofu – quite bland by itself
7. Mongolian chicken – Nice, fry crisply
8. Stir fry vege – Just normal
There is a paid parking within the complex.
Customer service and establishment hygiene is ok.
Overall it’s ok but nothing extraordinary.
Extremely disappointed with our experience at Welcome Seafood. We chose this restaurant based on good reviews but left feeling cheated.
**What happened:**
– We ordered LARGE crabs with kamheong cooking (their specialty, highly recommended)
– The crabs served were suspiciously small, making us doubt they were even 1kg total
– Bill showed 3 crabs at 300g each – but we were only served 2 crabs
– We were charged RM70/kg for “large crabs” when we clearly received small crabs (RM11 per crab)
**Poor handling by staff:**
When we raised the issue and requested a refund, staff came to inspect the crab shells but conveniently failed to mention that we were served small crabs instead of the large crabs we ordered and paid for.
We had to physically bring the crab shells to the live crab display area to compare. We watched other tourists who arrived after us receive noticeably larger crabs.
No proper apology. No acknowledgment of the mistake. No fair resolution.
**The food:**
Even if pricing was correct, the kamheong cooking was subpar and didn’t live up to the hype.
**Conclusion:**
This place targets tourists with dishonest practices. The bait-and-switch with crab sizes, billing for 3 crabs when serving 2, and oblivious of serving small size crab and charge large size crab price to make it right shows this isn’t just a mistake – it’s their business model.
**Save your money and go elsewhere.** There are many honest seafood restaurants in the area that won’t take advantage of you. For example: Hilltop.
