One of the things Ohio has down is ice cream and custard. Maybe it is the long history of dairy farming, maybe it is the Midwestern expectation of a large waistline. Whatever the reason, there is a ton of competition here for amazing ice cream: Handles and Mitchell’s in Northern Ohio (some of the creamiest, richest ice cream around), Jenni’s in Columbus (no one does wild, modern flavors better), Graeter’s in Southern Ohio (no one does chocolate chunks in a ice Cream better!). Well, Weber’s is on that list of the best of the best, and a legit contender for the top of it.
This small-batch ice cream is amazingly flavored and many flavors are made the same way they were in the early 1900s. The list is long and the flavors are amazing. Literally everything I tried I liked, and I had to stop trying flavors because they had so many to choose from and I felt bad. You MUST try the frosted malt, it is to die for!
Speaking about the frosted malt, that flavor plays into the compant’s amazing history. You should ask about it and the Higbee logo next to it when you visit. I also couldn’t believe that they still made the old flavors using the old machinery with the old recipes and it tastes just like it used to. That’s another thing you can read about on their website or ask them about when you visit.
TLDR: go here, get the frosted malt and sample some of the others. Ask about the company’s history. Then come back and tell me how much you loved it!
“The American Society of Mechanical Engineers will only accept working originals for their Museum. When asked to donate these, the last 2 machines known to exist, I politely turned them down, because these machines and the product that ONLY THEY CAN MAKE, are part of Cleveland’s Heritage.”
Try out their no sugar added ice cream in 2 flavors- cherry and butter pecan. It’s what I get as part of my low carb and or keto diet plan.
I have been to dozens of ice cream shops near and far, and have never tasted anything like Weber’s.
I was able to sample many of the vintage ice cream (custard) flavors and they were truly all amazing. The banana has a fresh banana flavor (not artificial like a laffy taffy), the Euclid vanilla is perfectly simple and refreshing, the higbees malt has all of the chocolatey-malt flavor without any of the “powdery” taste, the pumpkin is flavorful without being overly spicy or too sweet…. and the PB OREO. My goodness, you have to try the PB Oreo. Joe Thomas has good taste. (P.S. you can ask them to split a “single scoop” into 2 flavors!)
It’s official, as of today Weber’s has the best ice cream / custard I have ever had. A little pricey compared to other shops but saying it’s worth the cost is an understatement. If you haven’t made the trip, please do. You won’t regret it!!
