All I can say is WOW amazing!!! My family and I drove a long way and we were not disappointed. It was authentic Peruvian food. Each dish was perfect from the presentation to the flavor. Kudos to the chef, you can tell he loves what he does. HIGHLY recommend!!! I know I’ll be back.

Wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Taverna Berrocal last nite (08/14/25). We had the most wonderful experience! The location is on top of the Holiday Inn Express Hotel at I75 and Hwy 200. The person waiting on us was great! I’m sorry that I can’t remember his name but he was personable, friendly and provided good service. We had a house red wine, I believe it was a Cabernet and it was wonderful. We had the calamari appetizer which was delicious! We both ordered the Neapolitan II entree. My wife and I absolutely loved it! The shrimp were perfect, perfect! Scallops delicious and the lobster to die for! To top it off was an amazing cream sauce that just brought it all together! They provided a free tasty dessert for our anniversary. We will recommend this place to family and friends and will certainly return.

The place was nice and big, the service—mediocre. We were a group of 6. The food was terrible. We waited almost an hour, and they brought the plates one by one. We ordered ceviche, chaufa, ají de gallina, lomo saltado, chicharrón de pescado, and lamb chops. The potatoes were undercooked and cold, papá a la huancaina had no flavor at all. I had to send the Lamb chops back to cook as they came medium rare. They came back almost the same. Aji de gallina had the chicken in chunks. The chicharrón de pescado did not come with any salsa criolla or salsa tártara. The fish was dry.
If they came with the excuse that this was fusion with French or Italian food—PLEASE.

Recently my wife and I enjoyed an excellent Saturday night at this hidden away Peruvian restaurant. We saw photos in other reviews and knew that chef Juan Carlos understood food presentation. After our dinner it was clear he also understood how to make it delicious.
The atmosphere in this small restaurant was cozy, and comfortable, and the service was very attentive.
We started with the Choros a la Chalaca as a spicy appetizer and moved to entrees of Seafood Saltado and Pescado a la Macho, both of which were excellent. While we enjoyed the spicy Choros, they were too pricey. Our entrees were priced fairly for such an enjoyable meal. We finished with deserts of Tres Leches and Tiramisu, both of which were excellent.
This is a true gem in Ocala and we hope it grows in popularity. We would suggest adding some entrees in the $15-$20 range in order to attract a wider customer base, without losing the special feeling that their signature dishes provide. We love having an excellent non-chain restaurant that provides a wonderful alternative to the usual choices in Ocala.

I’ve dined at this location at least 2-3 dozen times. I remember showing up hoping to eat at what was Sabores Latinos and disappointed that place was gone, but I was quickly won over.
This place is great and it has gotten significantly better over time. At first, there were missed or incorrect orders but I haven’t had that happen in a long time. Orders used to take a much longer time. They still take longer than other places but it is reasonable for what you get. It’s not fast food. It’s a fantastic dining experience where everything is made to order. The chef is a real pro. Everything is top notch as far as quality and freshness. Plating is beautiful. It’s has been fun to watch this place evolve and grow. The addition of pizza was an amazing surprise. I did not think a Peruvian restaurant would/could serve great pizza but was proven wrong. The pizzas are top tier. I had never tried fried pizza before but it was awesome. The Americana is still the king(new York style pepperoni pizza with a perfect crust).
One always has to judge a Peruvian restaurant by its papa a la huancaina. This place did not disappoint with that beautiful sauce. The fried rice(chaufa) is always cooked and seasoned beautifully. The lomo saltado is the best I’ve tried including NYC and Orlando locations. I enjoyed the ceviche the one time I had it. The calamari and jalea mixta are to die for (definitely the only way I’ve gotten my kids to eat fish). Too bad the pescado chicharrón is gone. The tallarín verde is great. I really wish they did the green rice and chicken (maybe one day). I hope the pescado alo macho makes a comeback. Ají de gallina and escabeche are probably my favorites off the current menu. The soups are hearty and well seasoned. The alfajores weren’t my favorite but that’s likely because they’re different than what I’m used to(these are more chewy whereas I’m use to the flaky kind). The chocolate cake was dense and chocolaty without being too sweet. The tres leches was less like the typical yellow cake and more of a pound cake or scone but stellar. The fried ice cream was AWESOME. I’m use to the Japanese style. This was more like an ice cream beignet and so much better. I had the tiramisu today and enjoyed it. The wine selection is impressive for the small location.
It’s a weird reference but I feel like this is the Led Zeppelin of restaurants. The songs remain the same but don’t always sound exactly the same. I’m a fan of those surprises and it shows the passion of the chef. Not everything on the menu is always available, but I suspect it’s to maintain the highest standard of freshness that I’ve come to expect.
Nicole is an amazing server and very attentive. The music and ambience is soothing and welcoming. This place deserves a lot more love from Ocala.

This was our first visit to Taverna. We decided to go for a special anniversary dinner. We were blown away by the food! We started with chef’s choice appetizer. Very lightly breaded, tender calamari. Hubs selected the beef, and I went directly for the seafood. Everything was superbly seasoned. The fish filet was perfectly cooked along with shrimp, mussels (to die for!), and scallops. The chef came to our table and told us about the food…all made by him in house. We ended with decadent desserts. Also, the presentation of each dish was beautiful. We could not have selected a better dining experience. Highly recommend Taverna Berrocal!

This was our first visit to the new location on the top floor of the Holiday Inn in Ocala. We had previously dined at their former location and were very anxious to see and support Taverna Berrocal in this new adventure. The atmosphere in this restaurant was outstanding. Decor and artwork displaying the culture of Chef Juan Berrocal were tasteful and appreciated.

We found the food offerings to be wonderful, starting with Scallop and Mussel appetizers; and enjoyed the Lamb Chops, Seafood Paella, Slow Braised Duck (Arroz Verde con Pato) and Tiramisu. We were all pleased with our choices.
Our server, Jonathon, was an absolute delight. His enthusiasm and pride made the experience extra enjoyable for us.
We certainly intend to return and try other items on the menu.

This place was absolutely delicious!!! We ordered the scallops, mussels, and ceviche as appetizers. My entree was the chicken soup that had the most bold and complex flavor. It almost made me regret eating appetizers because I was too full to finish! The servers are very nice and knowledgeable on the food. Service is a little slow but completely worth the wait. My only complaint was that they were out of a few things, but I guess that’s not a bad problem when everything is fresh. Can’t wait to try out the other dishes
