I ordered a grilled chicken wrap with cheddar cheese, and after taking a bite, I discovered a long, black, curly hair melted directly into the cheese and chicken. This wasn’t a hair that simply fell on top — it was cooked into the food, which tells me it was there during preparation. That alone is absolutely revolting and unacceptable for any food establishment, let alone one that claims to have food safety standards.
What made this situation even worse was the response from management. I called the store and spoke with the manager, Rhonda Wicks, and her reaction showed zero concern for food safety or customer well-being. She told me that I would need to bring the wrap back in and then she would remake it. At that point, I made it very clear that I would never be eating food from Wawa again.
Instead of showing any understanding or taking responsibility, she spoke to me in a rude and dismissive tone and went on to insist that “everyone making food is wearing hair nets and proper equipment.” That statement is incredibly frustrating considering I ended up with a clearly visible hair melted into my food. If proper precautions were truly being followed, this would not have happened. Dismissing a legitimate and serious food contamination issue instead of addressing it professionally is extremely concerning.
The fact that finding hair in food was treated as not a big deal is honestly more alarming than the hair itself. This shows a lack of accountability, poor management, and a complete disregard for basic hygiene standards.
I expected better from Wawa, but this experience proved otherwise. Between the unsanitary food, the lack of concern, and the unprofessional behavior from management, I will never return, and I strongly caution others to think twice before ordering food from this location.
Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable.
On September 30th, I stopped by this Wawa and ordered two items: a sandwich and a small $2.49 pancake sandwich with chicken. What I saw while picking up my order shocked me. The person preparing the food was wearing gloves, but in those same gloves he tied his shoelaces, touched the floor, and even touched the trash. Then, without changing gloves, he continued handling food.
This is completely unacceptable and unsanitary. I immediately returned my two items to the manager, who gave me a refund. However, after witnessing this, I will not be ordering from this location again.
Managers, please pay close attention to what your employees are doing behind the counter. Food safety and hygiene should be taken seriously.
The staff making the food has always been awesome, the store is always clean, everything is well stocked, the gas pump attendants have always been kind and quick.
The ONLY REASON I didn’t leave five stars is because of the one guy with the dark hair at the checkout counter. He’s very rude and has a negative attitude.
Today he asked me to move the items I was buying “closer to him”(the counter is like two feet wide, at most) then he gets me the wrong thing from behind the counter and gives me attitude when I ask for the correct product. Last time I was there, it was slower, and he was leaving the counter(having been a retail manager before, I know that’s probably against Wawa policy) and he told me “just use the self checkout” and I said “I have to buy a can of Zyn too” and he gave me a ton of attitude while checking out.
I go into every store on the planet with a smile and manners, and I expect to at least be treated somewhat the same.
Otherwise, this is a great store!
The staff at this location were friendly and helpful, and the service was quick and efficient. The cashier greeted me with a smile and checked me out promptly, making my overall shopping experience a breeze.
