The first Waterloo Ice House opened its doors on Congress Avenue in 1976. It was casual neighborhood gathering spot serving hot, handmade meals and ice cold beer for an eclectic mix of Austin business people, students, artists and musicians. Over the years, Waterloo has become a place for whole family entertainment, including playscapes for kids, game rooms, flat screen TVs for watching various sporting events, large outdoor patios and full bars. There are now four Waterloo locations, which include the location at 360 and 2222, Burnet Road and 183, Escarpment Village, and Southpark Meadows.
Salads, baked potatoes, burgers & beer plus a kids’ menu dished up in a high-energy, casual setting.

Great experience here! Food, atmosphere and service were awesome. Our waitress, Ashley, was very attentive and put in a food order early for our toddler as we waited for our party. Very kid friendly. Will come back!!

This place is such a south Austin gem. Love it. Sometimes they don’t always follow through on the special requests, even if not busy (most recent example: no cheese in the tortilla soup), and one of the kid hosts seems comically confused by her job, but no big deal. Everyone is on proactive and definitely friendly. Good service despite a few mistakes!

We came here for breakfast, and everything was absolutely wonderful! I ordered an omelet with hash browns and it was perfect: the hash browns were slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and not overcooked, which often happens in diners. The omelet was incredibly tender and delicious.
What impressed us even more was that we asked for decaf coffee, and they specially prepared it for us — such a thoughtful touch! The service was excellent: the staff was friendly and efficient, and the place was very clean.
This spot is clearly popular; it was quite busy in the morning, but that didn’t affect the speed or quality of the service. We left with full stomachs and great impressions. Thank you, we will definitely come back!

I took my friend’s 3 year old here while I was watching him for a few days. The waitress took our order and got us drinks very quickly, and then I took him to play on the playground while we waited for our food. He had only gone down one slide and his food was already at the table. He filled up on his French fries, so he only ate a couple of bites of his Mac and cheese, which we were able to take home in a to-go container. I got a gringo taco and a pulled pork taco, both were delicious, as were the black beans and rice on the side. I was able to pay pretty quickly after we finished eating which was really nice since the 3 year old really wanted to get back on the playground. It was a little bit more than I’d normally be looking to pay at a restaurant, but it was certainly reasonable for the quality and amount of food we got.
The service was excellent, and our server Kerry was incredibly nice and helpful.
The playground behind the restaurant is epic. The big jungle gym had 4 or 5 big slides, a lot of different climbing things, a few different sets of monkey bars, and one of those things you hold on to and glide back and forth on. some parts of the big jungle gym were a little difficult for the 3 year old to manage, but he did okay with just a bit of help, and plenty of kids who didn’t look that much older than him were able to play on it independently. There was also a play house- like area with a bunch of musical instruments on it (although many were missing their mallets), and a smaller jungle gym for younger kids that had 5 or 6 more slides and a few different climbing places. There were also astroturfed hills that the kids were rolling down.
The playground isn’t only accessible through the restaurant, but having a table at the restaurant gave us a safe place to put our stuff while we were playing. Many people there with older kids were eating on the patio while their children played on the playground, and I’m sure this would be an excellent place to meet up with friends for drinks without needing a babysitter for parents of elementary school aged kids.

I went to Waterloo Ice House in Southpark Meadows with my dad for lunch, and honestly, it’s always kind of the same vibe—which isn’t a bad thing. The service is always super friendly and upbeat, probably the best part of the place. The food’s just okay to me, nothing mind-blowing, but it’s solid for the price. I mean, it’s tasty enough, just not something I’d brag about. Every now and then, the fries or fried appetizers come out a little too crispy, but that’s not the worst thing in the world—still edible, just kind of overdone. The atmosphere’s alright, kind of a strange blend that I can never fully figure out. It feels like they’re going for a mix between a Bayou-style spot and a sports bar, which is a little confusing, but whatever, it works. Overall, it’s a decent place to grab a casual meal and chill. Just don’t expect to be blown away.

Our first 2 times trying this place were to-go orders and we loved it. This time we dined in and had a great experience. Our waiter was super attentive and made sure we we’re taken care of throughout our meal. Food and drinks came out fast and were delicious. It’s right down the road from where we live and I think it’s our new go-to place.

Been coming to SP Meadows location for years, but this last visit is my last visit. Management automatically places a 20% tip on your bill. A server that brought my bill ( not my waitress) failed to mention their was already gratuity added to the bill. The service was not 20% quality. When I called her on it, she just giggled walking away. I said that’s not funny & she replied it is to me.

Finally got the chance to check out Waterloo Ice House! Pretty great brunch spot, for sure! Located in the heart of South Park Meadow’s, it’s pretty easily accessible.
The brunch food was great! Tried their omelette, waffle, and their breakfast burger – definitely recommend the omelette!!
Our server was also very pleasant! She was super nice and very patient. Can’t wait to revisit again!

Usually the food is good. But so disappointed spent almost $100.00 on dinner and burgers had no taste they were so dry even after trying to add more mayo and bbq to another we still couldn’t eat them. Not to include I had no fries that were included with one burger. I was so hungry but this was all I could stomach.
