We were so excited to discover Water Into Wine after moving to the Turkey Creek area. It’s within walking distance, and finding a cute little bistro wine bar we could stroll to felt like hitting the neighborhood jackpot. The décor is charming and cozy — exactly the kind of place you picture becoming “our spot.”

Unfortunately, the service hasn’t matched the vibe.

On our first visit, the bearded bartender gave off strong “you again?” energy — even though it was literally our first time there. No greeting, no smile, just a general sense that we may have interrupted something very important (like… standing behind the bar). After some friendly effort on our part, he did warm up and conversation improved. But we’re not sure guests should have to work that hard for basic hospitality.

We figured maybe it was just an off day and went back. The second visit somehow managed to be even frostier. We sat at the bar (completely empty, mind you), and there was no hello or acknowledgment. When the phone rang, he answered it and tossed the menus in front of us like we were contestants in a quiet game show called “Guess What You’re Allowed to Order.” Still no words.

As I was about to order a glass of wine with lunch, I was asked to pour out the quarter-inch of water left in my bottle from our walk over. Fair enough if it’s policy — but paired with the vibe, it felt less like policy and more like a final exam in Beverage Etiquette.

My husband felt bad and ordered food anyway. We took it home and were underwhelmed. The food was okay, but not memorable enough to overcome the chilly welcome.

It’s truly a cute concept in a great location, and we really wanted this to be our regular neighborhood gem. We’re not looking for red carpet treatment — just a simple hello and maybe a smile that says “we’re glad you’re here.”

Came in on a Saturday night and they had live music after 7:30. Very nice.

I had their Cod, with a garlic truffle reduction along with sautéed mushrooms and broccoli. It was very good. My wife had the medallions with garlic mashed potatoes. This was good as well. The mushroom appetizer was great. It was my wife’s birthday, so they brought out a complimentary Tiramisu.

Friendly folks working there night. A great place just outside of Turkey Creek.

The mushrooms stuffed with spinach and artichoke were soooo good. Cozy, friendly environment and a fun Gypsy Jazz show with Swingbooty. A great place to hang with friends. Awesome food, nice wine selection.

We went there this past Friday for the special beef Wellington, something I wanted to do to treat my wife. It was our first date night out in years due to 3 kids and no sitters. I was excited to treat her.
The appetizer was pricey and the were extremely skimpy on the food / sauces. Next was the main course! Which sucker. I ate all mine because I paid $70 for it. The best part was the pastry. The mushroom and prosciutto wrap was flavorless and near nonexistent, and the meat was well done and looked as if it had been boiled. The reduction was again, lacking flavor and just a sweet sugary syrup. My wife couldn’t eat it and when she told our waitress she said “ oh, that’s unfortunate. Would you like dessert? “ which we did not. The highlight was a beer that I had, and a glass of wine my wife had. Spent $240 in total… if your looking for good food that you get what you pay for, good atmosphere, great service, and if the food isn’t good, they make sure to fix it… go to the Milling Company in Maryville. What upsets me most is that my wife wasn’t able to enjoy a good meal. Between work and kids, these nights are so rare.. if you do go, I wish you the best and pray your experience is better than ours.

Edit:
After re-reading this a few times I decided to do an edit. Upon arriving there the lady who checked us in, was kind. Space was a bit cramped but on Valentines weekend I don’t fault them for this. Atmosphere was nice. A little candle with a few rose petals for that ambience touch which is well thought of. Our server was kind, helpful, and outside the issue with the Beef Wellington, I would say she did great. Because of that, I made sure to tip her appropriately. My wife wanted to leave 5 bucks because of her Meal but I left her over $30 ( totaling $240 ) because it wasn’t her fault the Wellington wasn’t good. My wife didn’t even want to take it home with us. I digress… I wanted to add this edit because I don’t normally write reviews because we don’t get out much and I want to be a reason a business has issues. Also, after reading my review a few times I wanted to add some stars back because the check in lady and server were kind. I wanted to provide our experience so others could look at ours vs others and say “ they have glowing reviews… but this guys Wellington was not good… let’s go but we will trying something else. “ which, again is why I wanted to edit and say that outside the issues with our Wellington, the atmosphere, service, check in / out was smooth, place was clean and felt like a place I would normally drive to again if not for the Meal.

I hope this helps clarify our evening and let others know that I don’t hate or hold anything against the Restaurant or Staff.. just upsetting to spend that kind of money to do something special for my wife and it end like that. Again, if you choose to go, I pray your food is better than ours! And I hope they continue their level of Atmosphere and friendly service!

We being Smoky Mountain rural residents come to the Big Orange City for shopping, dental appointments, physician appointments and to be able to enjoy a good meal. We have eaten at many locations during our outings in the past few years – some chains and some locally owned establishments. We prefer the later and Knoxville has many we have enjoyed. We discovered W2W about a year ago by internet search because my wife was tired of going to the same places to order about the same thing. I must say we enjoy other local restaurants but when we visited Water into Wine in Farragut we entered a whole new world of cuisine and drink. Steve the Manager was our 1st impression and he was so professional plus caring as well as engaging we instantaneous felt extremely comfortable. Then came the wait staff which was equally professional and warm willing to answer all questions providing excellent input on selections because they listened plus took time for exchanges making sure you were comfortable with your choices. Rachel, Payton and Addy are the best waiters and waitresses I believe I have ever had. You feel part of their family during each experience there. I have never met the Beverage Staff of the Kitchen Staff but the professionalism extends there within

Absolutely amazing atmosphere and vibe. A tight space in a commercial strip mall has been transformed into an incredible upscale experience.

We came here on valentines for a drink and dessert, but should’ve come for dinner as the beef Wellington looked great on the menu.

I think above all else was the live jazz. Any other music would have cheapened the atmosphere, and it being live added even greater value.

This was not our first choice for dinner tonight. Thankfully we were in a hurry and our first choice couldn’t accommodate. This place is AMAZING! We will be back every opportunity! Not because I share my name with the owner. But because it was truly amazing. Great drinks. Great atmosphere. Great food! Great service! This is definitely our first choice going forward! I always post a pic of me and my yummy hubby when we are on a date and I check in for Facebook memories. Within a couple of minutes the owner saw it and let us know. We had not read the story of this place. God is sooo good!! Candace…we will be back! Thank you for starting our date night off AMAZINGLY!!

This restaurant is a slice of heaven in Knoxville. The food is fantastic, atmosphere so intimate, warm and inviting. Specialty drinks and wine selection are top notch. We often have Rachel as our server and she is absolutely wonderful. Her attention to detail is impeccable and she remembers all conversations from each past visit. If you get to interact with her, you’re the luckiest! Great spot, highly recommend!!
