We’ve been wanting to try this BBQ place for a while and finally made it in yesterday. The food was really good, and the staff was super kind and welcoming.
We got the rib dinner, and it was more than enough for the two of us, with leftovers to take home. The ribs were tender and full of flavor, and the sauce was great—kind of like a mix between Carolina gold and a hot sauce.
The hash really surprised me in a good way. I’d never had it before, but it was amazing, even over rice. It had a good balance of spicy, sweet, tangy, and meaty flavors.
The corn dodgers were also really good. I don’t know why, but I expected them to be like mini corn dogs, which they weren’t—but they were still really enjoyable.
The only downside was the slaw and potato salad. They were fresh and crisp, but didn’t have much flavor compared to everything else.
We’ll definitely be back, especially because the portion sizes are great for the price. Paying around $20 for lunch for two people is pretty rare these days.

If I were ever in a position that I needed to request a last meal, Ward’s Bar-B-Que Hash and Rice would be immediate request. Sadly, I live about 8 hours away in Florida. However, on a recent vacation to Myrtle Beach, we were about to detour and buy their pulled pork dinner along with 4 gallons of hash for the road. Their food never disappoints and was as good as ever. Their pork is mouthwatering yummy. The hash was just as perfect as I remembered. The store is beautifully clean and the staff are super friendly. If you want a true taste of South Carolina Bar-B-Que then Ward’s is the place to go.

Went to this Wards bbq this past Sunday. It was only 1 of 3 locations open on Sunday. It was after 2pm and they were going to be closed next 2 days so I was a bit concerned about it being fresh. Well it was absolutely delicious. I’m a northerner visiting my son but I do like my bbq, especially Carolina style. Got the Pulled pork platter with all the fixings. Xtra sauce on pork was offered and accepted, so good. The rice n hash was a first for me and was excellent. Sides of slaw & potato salad were very good and fresh. And the hush puppies might have been best I’ve ever had. Service was friendly young man at counter snd 2 ladies working hard in the back. Whenever I come down to Sumter Wards will be my go to for bbq.

I’ve been getting the Hash and Rice for years and it’s usually always good. The place always seems to be clean but they don’t wear hair nets or gloves. And the food only have a aluminum foil cover sometimes.

Was traveling through Sumter and had a hankering for BBQ. Ward’s was just down the street from where I was at according to Google Maps so I stopped in and ordered a barbecue plate. I was definitely Not impressed with this barbecue and did not even attempt to finish the plate. I typically do not like to waste food however I was unable to finish this plate of food. I personally would not visit Ward’s BBQ again. I am used to real BBQ at Little pigs BBQ in Columbia and Shealy’s BBQ in Leesville.

this is a hot mess! The chicken is bland asl doesn’t even look or taste like it’s been anywhere near a smoker or a grill. Not seasoned, looks like 8ts more baked than anything… Idk what this brown stuff is but it’s not hash I’ve ever seen! Just terrible. $32 wasted!

Was looking for some bbq hash, like I had gotten from an old man selling bbq in a parking lot once. This isn’t it, it was ok, but it’s pricey for what you actually get. They had pork, ribs, hash and chicken on the menu, but only had pork and hash available today.
