We truly enjoyed our meal here. The liangpi was the best I’ve ever had – wonderful raw garlic notes and not too mustardy. The other dishes we ordered were all cooked to perfection and the serving size is very reasonable for the price. Service was very kind and helpful – only thing that can be improved which others have mentioned is that the food took quite a while to come out. Will definitely come back, and when we do we wanna try the sweet and sour pork which almost everyone else had ordered!

Super busy at lunch time over the weekend. For dinner on a random Saturday we went, all tables were seated by 5:30pm. Food comes in large portions; many tables can seat six.

We stopped by over the weekend and were seated quickly upon arrival. However, by the time we left, the place was packed—so it definitely fills up fast on weekends.

The food took a bit of time to come out, even though it wasn’t busy when we first arrived. Still, the wait wasn’t too long.

Service was just okay. It took a few minutes before we were given menus, which was a bit of a delay.

We ordered the four meatball dish, green beans, traditional sweet and sour pork, and Shanghai dumplings.

The meatballs were surprisingly tender and the sauce was flavorful. The green beans were decent but nothing special. The sweet and sour pork had thin slices of pork, but the batter was heavy and the texture a bit chewy. The Shanghai dumplings were average—the filling was fine, but the skin was a little too doughy.

Overall, I’d give this place 3 stars.

I’ve dined-in and ordered to-go at least 16 times now. I can honestly say that they are consistently great.

I was hooked from the get-go. A WIDE range of menu items with an endless display of their signature dishes on the walls. Every time my girlfriend and I come for dinner, we also try to select something new. Whether it be a fish dish, pork, veggie, soup, braised, fried, etc., every single dish was surprisingly good but Some were amazing (with the exception of their dumplings unfortunately. Those are just okay).

Stand outs: This sweet and sour fish dish with a uniquely tasty sauce, their four meatballs definitely left a big impression (they were huge and delicious), their braised pork knuckle was insanely tender and great, their garlic shrimp with vermicelli had so much flavor, I could go on and on.

I maybe had one unfavorable experience. It was a very busy Tuesday evening, fully packed and actually had to wait for the first time. Food took a while to come out, approx 30-40mim which isn’t normal, but having been there numerous of times before, I wasn’t bothered. They moved as fast as they could while being professional. Not sure if they weren’t expecting the rush or a short staffed in the kitchen, but at this point, I just imagine they’re all family trying to make this wonderful restaurant work, and to me, it’s working. It’s rare to find a genuine lowkey restaurant that is cooking with such intention that you feel it in the dishes. Keep it up!

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant, which specializes in authentic northeastern Chinese cuisine. I ordered the Traditional Sweet and Sour Pork (鍋包肉) and Cumin Lamb (孜然羊肉) —both dishes were flavorful without being overly spicy or salty, which I really appreciated.
The total cost was $41 (including tax), and the portion sizes were incredibly generous. The containers were packed to the brim, and the two dishes easily fed three adults. Excellent value for money!
Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for delicious, hearty Northeastern Chinese food.

I called and got some to go dishes for a gathering I had at the house. I ordered:

1. Meigan Cai Cooked w/Pork – 4 / 5
Great tasting dish just like how other restaurants usually prepare them. The marination was right and it tasted delicious for all of my guests.

2. Honey Walnut Shrimp – 5 / 5
A very solid staple for any Chinese restaurant. The breading is perfect alongside with honey and walnut. The portion though is a little on the smaller side compared to other dishes.

3. Black Pepper Beef – 4 / 5
The black pepper is strong in combination with beef and onions is the perfect way to make this dish taste superb. The beef however could have been marinated longer which would have made this dish taste even better.

The services though in my opinion lands on the wait. I called before I came, they told me it’ll be ready at 5:20 pm. I showed up at 5:22 pm and only 1 out of the 3 dishes were ready?

Mind you that this was about 30 minutes after I called to pick up my food. What took them so long? There were only 3 parties eating inside. What were they doing the whole time? I guess I would never know….

If you ever order here, just know that the meal prep will be slow if you aren’t here in person. The food ain’t bad, but the wait is what killed it for me.

Mung bean noodle salad is always one of my favorite and hard to get it and I’m so happy they have this dish. It’s more peanut sauce instead of mustard, also, I wish the noodle is not too soft. They have to make it little bit more Al Dante harder texture. The red yeast pork over Napa is not bad. The brown sauce fish was huge but it was a little bit fishy. The house special tofu with pork sauce was really good and one of our highlights. The garlic pea sprout was just okay. Not enough seasoning. Overall it was pretty good and I would like to try the glass noodle tomato pot someday and their other dishes.

I am from Beijing and New York City, and I have been living in the Bay for about 5 years…seen them all (most). TRUST ME when I say this place is a TOP 5 among ANY true Northern Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. The lead chef here is also the owner. This is the setup that’s gold.

The wait is a bit long but this is because everything was made scratch, not from frozen. They make their stewed ribs the way my now passed Beijing grandmother used to (almost brought tears to my eyes)… Be prepared to be vowed. It doesn’t get more authentic Northern Chinese than this place (in the US).

Peter and his staff were so amazing. My family and I were looking for a restaurant to host a family event and they graciously closed the whole place for our event. There was no added fee beyond the cost of the food! We ordered over 10 dishes including the mala fried fish, mongolian beef, honey walnut prawn, chow fun, fish with wine sauce, crispy pork with eggplant, and west lake soup. All the dishes were tasty and the portions very generous. I would highly recommend for events, but also casual lunches and date nights!
