Very small spot with just a few tables and a nice bar. We were fortunate enough to time our arrival just as a few tables opened and got right in.
We’ve wanted to dine here for awhile but just hadn’t, our mistake.
This is 100% seafood and a small menu as everything is fresh not frozen and we could appreciate that. If you want six pages of menu and hotdogs, this is not your place.
We started with the grouper patties which we loved, the wife even asked if the had the dipping sauce to sell and take home.
I had the blackened grouper that was absolutely perfect, the wife had grilled shrimp which were large pinks and they were perfect as well.
I had the dinner with rice and veggies she had the greens.
This will be a come back spot for us in the future and a definite go to when we have folks visit.
Our server was very good explaining the menu and a bit about the restaurant and what they do.

Loved this place. Owners were incredibly friendly and nice. Has its’ own parking on backside which is rare at John’s Pass. The crab soup and mahi teriyaki burger were both yummy. Wife loved the smoked fish spread and shrimp and brother loves the grouper cakes and calamari. Generous pours of wine and was told restaurant was an old officers quarters that were moved to the current location.

Waltz Fish Shak is a true hidden gem on Madeira Beach! The service is friendly and attentive, the seafood is locally caught and absolutely fresh, and the quaint, romantic atmosphere makes it the perfect coastal dining spot. Anyone leaving a bad review clearly doesn’t appreciate authentic, local charm — this place is the real deal! Highly recommend for anyone who loves great food and genuine Florida vibes.

Great food. Felt sorry for the waitress. She was all alone & the place was packed. Fun place.

This local gem is amazing. The freshest fish in the area. Small menu due to freshly caught and if you wait too long the item might be sold out. I always get the red snapper lightly fried and it’s my favorite in town. Such a cool and laidback vibe. I really appreciate small local restaurants whenever I travel and respect the atmosphere and those who frequent there. I am always greeted kindly and love the owners. Their restaurant is like stepping into Key West. If you’re looking for a large group or a large menu selection or touristy place this will not be your jam.

Looking for great seafood John’s Pass Seafood Fest weekend and opted for a sit down vs stand in line lunch. Great luck finding Walt’z. Sat at the bar, had the fish spread-as I do where ever I find it-was a bit sweeter and served with Vegs than I’m used to, but good. Then the lightly fried Grouper Cakes and lightly battered Mahi fingers. All very good!

Small dining spaces, porches, bar, tables and outside seating. Note the menu is on many chalkboards approaching and in the Resto.

Great service, appears to be family run.
Had a live music for fest weekend.

We had dinner at Waltz’s Crab Shak last night.

When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess told us they only serve fish – no steak, chicken, or fries. Just fish. Fresh fish that was caught that day!

We weren’t sure what to expect but we went ahead and sat down. We were glad we did as the fish entrees were excellent! The service was great. We started off with the Fish Spread. Very tasty! I would highly recommend it.

We had Yellow Edge Grouper Blackened, Yellow Edge Grouper Lightly Fried, and Blue Crab Cakes. They were all delicious!

For our sides, we had two choices: beach slaw and island rice with peas or an organic spring mix salad, the three of us each selected beach slaw and island rice with peas. It was a good choice as it was very tasty! .

The restaurant was small. The waitress said sometimes there is a long wait or they run out of food. We were lucky as last night they were not very busy.

The menu changes daily as the entrees are based on what is caught that day. The menu is written on a chalkboard. Once they run out of fish, they stop serving.

We will go back to Waltz’s Fish Shak. The food was delicious. Next time we are going to save room for a piece of Key Lime Pie.

Small business restaurant run by a seasoned gal who knows fish and food better than most of the touristy spots.

The grouper is local, fresh (mine came from the market just a few hours beforehand – Nachman’s told me!)

The grouper I had was the fresh black grouper, grilled “waltzs way”.

Market price was $44 for that day.

The homemade coleslaw was a sweet vinegar base with nuts and dried fruit.

It came with rice which had seasonings and lentils.

The food was very good. I can’t recommend it enough, check out the fish spread too!
