Don’t judge a book by its cover. When you pull into the small strip mall, you may think reconsider. Once you walk in, you feel better, and if you get the ribs, you’ll feel wonderful!! My wife was worried when we walked in, and we were the only ones in the restaurant. That quickly changed, and the place filled up. We got Gyoza and Ribs for apps. The ribs were amazing!! A light, sweet sauce, fall off the bone, and a slight crisp to them. I got the beef bone marrow ramen, and she got the smoked duck. We both enjoyed our meals. My wife loved the way the duck came out by the chef covered, and as he lifted the cover, you see the smoke come out. If you are in the area, it’s worth a visit.

I had no idea of this hidden gem in Edison, NJ. Wakai has brought some yummy NYC deliciousness into Jersey. From the cool Asian take on nachos, to the unique, tasty ribs, to the silky broth of the bone marrow ramen, I enjoyed every single bite. The interior is warm, with a wonderful simple beauty and the staff was attentive and so friendly. This place is all-around a top choice for me whenever I need a taste of yum in Edison. I live in SI and am so glad to know that a 15 min drive can take me to Wakai. Love! Everyone must try!

Cant tell from the outside but the inside of this restaurant is really nice! Edison doesn’t really have that many ramen specific places so having this as a more upscale ramen option is great. The ramen flavors were unique and light. Normally I have a hard time finishing a bowl but I cleaned this one up! We got lobster tacos as apps and those were really refreshing. Dessert was alright; a little overpriced for what we got but service and everything else was great!

I’m always looking for small businesses to support. This restaurant is a little gem. Don’t judge the book by the cover. The outside does not translate to what you get overall inside. Decorated very simple but less is more many times. It looked very clean. The service was great. All employees were eager to help you get a good experience. We met the chef, and he also was great. Our apps were so good. We had beef gyozo and short ribs. These ribs were probably the best I ever had. Perfectly cooked and amazing sauce. I also had the roasted smoked duck ramen. The presentation was mint, and the smoked duck is brought out by the chef with a top over dish that, when taken out, let’s you see the smoke coming out. It’s just very cool. They have dessert as well. We were just too full to go for it. There’s nothing bad to say about it at all. Wonderful experience. Will for sure return.

I keep it real. My review is based on the following factors: service, cleanliness, atmosphere, finally food.
We walked in on a Saturday night around 8pm and were seated immediately. We shared with the server that we had drove all the way from Maryland and decided to stop to eat there before heading to our final stop (Newark International Airport).
The airport is about a 20mins drive.
Now for my ratings
Service (5/5) was incredible! All staff went above and beyond from the very first moment.
Cleanliness (5/5) was top tier! Very clean!
Atmosphere (5/5) was so great! From the menu to the dishes the ramen is served in. You can appreciate the attention to detail!! Everything was so cute!
Food (5/5) was very good! We ordered three appetizers (Wings, Nachos, Edamame) and they were all delicious! The wings were our favorite. We then also ordered the Jerk Chicken Ramen, Truffle Butter Ramen and Traditional Tonkatsu Ramen. All were soooo good and fresh!
Would definitely recommend you try this place! Can’t wait to come back!

Saw this place when driving past and decided to come by with some friends. Best decision I’ve made! Everything was absolutely amazing, service was very polite and neat, they were very patient and explained to us about the dishes. We started with the smashed cucumber (couldn’t get a picture cause we finished it off too quick), the crunchy cucumbers goes very well with the sauce. Everything we ordered was delicious, will definitely come back!

I came on a Saturday when they reopened for dinner at 5PM. We had the Wakai Nachos, Wakai Signature Ribs, Tonkotsu Ramen, and Beef Bone Marrow Ramen. The nachos and ribs are a must try! The ribs were so tender and flavorful. Everything was delicious and came out in a timely manner. The chef is friendly and even came out to check with the customers to see how the food was. By the time we left around 6PM, it was getting busier for the dinner rush. I will definitely be bringing my friends and family to try Wakai!

I love this place!! We had the corn app which was delicious! It reminded me of takoyaki, in a way. I also had the spicy ramen which was delicious, I added corn into it. My boyfriend got the special one with the bone marrow and he finished the entire bowl! The dessert was tasty and the clear sauce on it was sweet – just how I like it. It was also too pretty to eat!

Highly recommended! The beef bone marrow ramen is definitely the best! Lobster tacos were great too, the wagyu gyoza was a little too oily for me. For dessert we tried the chocolate pyramid and it’s so good! Will definitely come back.

Firstly, the parking lot outside is quite small, so parking spots may be limited.
The restaurant has a very relaxing interior colors and design, imo. I have a party of 5 including 2 kids. We were greeted right when we entered. Highchair was being offered. Very nice and professional services!
The food, tbh, was slightly on the pricey side, but the quality and taste were not bad at all, pretty tasty.
