Pretty yummy for a take out Chinese spot. We didn’t expect too much coming here and just wanted something filling and cheap. The taste was much better than expected. We got the beef chow fun, shrimp Mei fun, beef with black bean sauce, shrimp with ginger and scallion, and szechuan style tofu. The beef chow fun and the beef with black bean sauce were both pretty good. What was not good was the szechuan style tofu. It was so salty but yet tasteless. Workers here were pretty friendly too. The food is simply not good at all. I read that they are under new ownership and you can absolutely see and taste that in the food quality. I ended up throwing it away, it was not edible at all. This was my go to Chinese place for 10+ years, it’s a shame that the prior owners sold.

Watchung changed management last year and since then, the quality of their food has diminished significantly. The food lacks taste and freshness. I ordered yesterday and had to ask that my food be made hot to go as the broccoli in the past was cold. Unfortunately I won’t supporting this establishment any longer. Yesterday’s order was more of the same.

This place has really gone down hill and shouldn’t even be at the location they are with the quality of food they are serving. When you think Of Chinese food, you think a quick, delicious and filling meal but I am disgusted. The general tsos chicken I ordered was absolutely dry and burnt. The broccoli was not fresh and lastly the pork fried rice was very mushy like mashed potatoes. Here I am still hungry and such a waste of money. I am done with this place and to think I tipped them for what?

This place definitely deserves more attention! I’ve been to other Chinese restaurants in the area but Wahchung Restaurant is by far the best of all the places I’ve tried so far. I happen to live very close to the one that people in Montclair seem to rave about (which remains unnamed here), but I seriously don’t see what the hype is all about. In my opinion Wahchung Restaurant is better in terms of both the taste (it’s got more “oomph” than the other place) and value (large portion with decent prices! The other place is way too expensive … I thought Chinese food was supposed to be affordable???).
