You will definitely have second thoughts when you pull up to this restaurant. Why? Because it’s located within a string of shabby rundown looking store fronts. But look past the outside, and you will be glad you took a leap of faith. Wah Gwan’s eccentric decor is very relaxing and the music playing puts you in a good mood. The customer service is top notch, the waitress was super nice and engaging. I encourage everyone looking for a great Caribbean meal to come here.
Jerk chicken- Comes with two pieces of tender well seasoned chicken, and a side of rice and cabbage. Completely satisfied with this entree.
Oxtails- Nice serving size of oxtails that is seasoned really good. Oxtails could’ve been a little more tender for my liking. But still good enough to enjoy my meal. This entree also comes with choice of rice and cabbage

Absolutely phenomenal! The food is so so delicious, the vibes are immaculate, and the staff is so friendly (Ashley was an absolute joy). My husband is vegetarian, and the coconut curry peas was to die for. The inside is super cozy and comfortable. There’s free parking behind the restaurant, tucked away off 63rd. We’re absolutely going to come back the next time we’re in Kansas City!

Was so happy we decided to try this restaurant. We were greeted with a big happy smile as soon as we walked in. Tolu was so kind to answer any questions we had. Spice level was perfect, the food was excellent. Definitely try the beef pattie appetizer. Delicious!!! We also had the jerk chicken and rasta pasta with shrimp. Portions were generous, enough we had leftovers to take home. A fun and delicious place to eat.

Ate here for the first time today for lunch and I’ll be back so soon! Not only was the food incredible, the atmosphere and service was amazing. One of my friends commented that between the food and service, that it was like getting a warm hug from your grandma. A+

When I first walked up, I didn’t know what to expect. Once I opened the door, I was pleasantly surprised and the decor and atmosphere. The food was hot, and tasted divine for reasonable prices. Wing provided me and my son great conversation. It was my son’s birthday, and he said it was the perfect place for us to eat. I will definitely be returning.

We visited Wah Gwan to have Jamaican food for the first time and it did not disappoint. We went in not knowing what to expect but had heard jerk chicken was a great place to start. Needless to say, we will be back soon and I will not hesitate in recommending this for a great Jamaican spot. The chicken was seasoned perfectly, spicy enough to enjoy. Jollof can be spicy depending on how high your tolerance is but the normal rice and peas was great and I thought it complemented the chicken perfectly. I didn’t know what to expect from the cabbage but I can’t imagine not having that as a side again, it’s seasoned with some herbs that add to its slight sweetness. There was a side of some sort of sauce or broth that tasted amazing, not sure what it’s called but it was yet another very different flavor that added to the overall dish.
The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. I witnessed the staff interacting with people who’d been visiting from out of town and even a regular customer, it was almost like hearing friends converse. It’s definitely not something you’d find in any chain restaurant where it feels like you’re just another transaction. I’m very much looking forward to coming back and trying all sorts of new dishes.

Awesome flavors, great service, cool atmosphere. I had the rasta pasta. It was delicious, really excellent flavor. The others in our group had jerk chicken and coconut shrimp. We all tried each other’s and the food was excellent. I don’t live too far from this place and I didn’t know it was there. If you haven’t been and you like very flavorful food, I would definitely recommend that you go and check it out. It’s also not expensive.

Once again, I saw it on TikTok. I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for a while now. Finally I had the time and opportunity. Sad to say I had such high hopes only to be let down. Looking on the website, I see the menu is very extensive and has pictures of every dish. I really wanted to try the oxtails. I go to place an online order, “we are not accepting online orders at this time”. Okay. I check doordash and can order there. Of course the prices are slightly higher but I really wanted to try it out. Unfortunately the doordash menu is not the same. The oxtails are not a choice. So I order the jerk chicken with cabbage and jollof rice for my husband. I get the fufu and egusi, a side of jerk chicken, a beef patty and a side of peas and rice. We go to pick it up. One thing I am not a fan of is there is no designated parking. We had to park along the side of the busy street, I hopped out and ran in to pick up my order. The vibes were great inside. I was greeted right away and given my food. In the car we immediately ate the beef patty. It was delicious. Getting home, I unloaded the bag and right away I realized they did not give me the rice and peas. That was disappointing but I reported it to doordash and moved on. I loved my food. It was really good with great flavor. My husband was not a fan. He prefers other Jamaican restaurants in the city. We wont be back but we are glad we tried it.
