Easy to find , five minutes from brookside with plenty of parking right in front on Troost or an ample off street parking lot in back off 63rd street. Tonight the princess and I tried the beef and vegetable patties as well as the jerk chicken with rice. The food was great very tasty and authentic. The atmosphere is very lively and so authentic in fact I spotted a set of dominoes and a young beggar just like our trip to Jamaica! I’m sure to return to this jewel hidden in plain sight very soon.

We ordered takeout while in the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and the oxtails, rice n peas, cabbage, plantains were really good! We also bought all of their Mango Rum Cake that was left. Whenever we come back to KC, MO. we will dine here. Might even see us next week!!

One of the best places I’ve eaten in Kansas City. We got the Beef Suya Meal, Beef Pattie, and Cookies ‘n Cream Rum Cake, and everything was delicious. The Beef Pattie was perfectly flaky and savory and well-seasoned. I have some regrets about not buying extras for breakfast tomorrow! The Beef Suya was lightly charred and very flavorful. The rum cake wasn’t messing around. The atmosphere was pleasant with lots of comfortable seating and great decor. There is plenty of street parking one block off the main drag. One caveat: don’t rely on the online menu, as prices and options have changed a bit.

I googled “Jamaican restaurant near me”, Wah Gwarn was second in the search because of distance but had a 4.7 rating as opposed to 4.4 to the nearer Jamaican restaurant. I would choose a 4.4 restaurant any day because I believe that’s an excellent rating too.

First let me say that Im originally from Miami l and have tasted legit Jamaican food and rarely post a positive review of any restaurants because most of the food is trash. This place did not disappoint, rice was perfectly cooked everything very well seasoned. Please don’t get content and fall off.

Visiting Wah Gwan feels like visiting a neighbor’s home. Everyone is so warm, friendly, and welcoming! We really enjoyed the ambience and OF COURSE the FOOD! We ordered at the counter (jerk chicken and stew), sat down to dine-in, and were soon served massive plates of delicious rice and extremely flavorful chicken that was literally falling off the bone! It truly felt like a home cooked meal. Everything felt so authentic and made with great care. Next time I go, I’ll try the Friday goat special for sure and bring my vegetarian friends (i saw they have several vegetarian options)!

Visited this restaurant for the first time with high expectations because it came recommended. The only staff member we encountered was the young lady at the counter. Although pleasant she was extremely quiet where you could barely hear her speaking. I ordered Jerk Chicken, Jolof Rice, Cabbage and Plantains. My husband ordered a Rasta Pasta dish and a side of Jerk Chicken. We ordered it “to go” and it took awhile so I was expecting the food to be piping hot and fresh. We ordered “to go” so I’ll factor that in somewhat. The decor was unique and really nice. Very cute and authentic set up which was interesting to look at and experience while we waited.

Very delicious red snapper, and the red peppers served with it were the best I’ve ever eaten. Also, all the staff was wonderful and friendly.

A friend from Nigeria referred this place to me. Food was exceptional! The owner and her assistant were fabulous! I felt really at home! The atmosphere in her restaurant was awesome. She has sayings/ quotes on the walls of the restaurant from her country that were really cool. The food was made to order and she explained everything in detail and even suggested other options. I will definitely be headed back real soon. Next time I will have to try the ox tails, they looked amazing! I would rate this place higher if I could! It amazes me that this restaurant existed and I never tried it. Like they say ” word of mouth gets you to some great restaurants!”. Give it a try, you will be quite surprised!
