After several times in Yakikami, tried dinner at Wagyu Ya on Thursday 22 January, seduced by the 90 minute Wagyu Free Flow Set promotion. Upgraded to Japanese A5. Ordered some Sashimi to start off, flushed down with glasses of Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Complimentary salad, miso soup and rice. Plates of meat of various types (M9 and A5) came and gone, roasted on a mesh over charcoal. Free Flow orders two types at a time and we order additional A5 Flap, M9 Chuck Tender and A5 Eye Roll. Could not eat more in around two hours. The M9 Rib Finger was too greasy and the rest great, although the first lots of A5 Flap tasted very differently. The first serve melted in the mouth, but not the second. Wines by glass is good vary and the 5 available reds acceptable. The sake menu looks good also. Another negative is the bbq are on the second floor but the stairs are too narrow and steep for some people, especially when old or tipsy. Prefer the other styles under the same umbrella of Yakikami. Will not return for quite a while. Anyway, too much meat for me personally.

The matsusaka beef was incredible!!! We had the freshest matsusaka beef which just arrived in Melbourne from Japan this morning. Wagyu Ya Group is the only place you could have a taste of authentic matsusaka beef in whole of Australia. The service was also first class. They provided complimentary cheese cake for my birthday. Highly recommend the restaurant if you are looking for wagyu beef in Melbourne.

Honestly one of the best Japanese dining experiences I’ve ever had in Melbourne. We ordered the Matsusaka beef — absolutely mind-blowing. From the service to the food, everything was flawless. It’s around $200–$300 per person, but totally worth it. You don’t have to fly to Japan to taste such rare and premium wagyu — I swear I just had the beef of my life.

Beautiful Japanese dining experience! From the tender A5 Wagyu to the fun diy temaki set, there’s just so much to love here! The food quality is top notch here too. Premium Wagyu, fresh ingredients and a stunning presentation. Definitely a must visit spot and a place I’ll keep coming back to.

This place is extremely overpriced for the portion sizes they give you. For two people, you’re easily looking at $250–$300 just to feel full. We had sashimi and two sets of the 60g wagyu. Didn’t really enjoy the wagyu either—maybe because we went with the cheaper option, but still, it just wasn’t great.
And we actually had to order an Assorted Tempura just to fill up. For $45, they served three prawns and a few veggies… that’s it.
Overall, the value just doesn’t match the price at all. We won’t be coming back—there are plenty of other places out there that offer way better quality and portions for what you pay.

Just had lunch here and wow – what a treat! Fresh oysters, perfectly tender Wagyu cubes, and the best Japanese hotpot we’ve found in Melbourne. Highly recommend for anyone craving top-notch flavors and a fantastic dining experience!

The food was very nice, fresh meat and taste but when I ordered the steak with wasabi sauce, I told 3times to the waiter leaves the sauce for me there, she just pour in the steak and took it away. She might not understand English. In general, she is very slow and not take care of clients. Hope you can improve the service more then your restaurant will be the best.

Oh wow, Wagyu Ya you’ve done it again! From the moment we slid into our seats on Toorak Road, the vibe was chef’s-kiss. Sleek, modern with a dash of luxe, nestled in the heart of South Yarra at 156 Toorak Rd.
The star of the night? The wagyu- each bite melts in your mouth. This is not your average dinner.
We also loved the little finishing touches: the fresh sashimi, the thoughtful plating, the attention to detail in service. I love that they have a special deal on hot pot each made me come on a weeknight!

We went there for my fiancé’s birthday and it was such a pleasant experience. We ordered the 2 person A5 wagyu set and the food quality definitely didn’t disappoint. The set also comes with soup (which was delicious) and side of rice with more beef. Whilst it didn’t look like a lot of good the start, we were surprisingly full at end. They also gave us free dessert (matcha cheesecake) at the end given the birthday booking.
The service was also amazing. While the set was quite pricey, it’s definitely worth the money for a special occasion. We would definitely come back and recommend to our friends.
