My husband and I recently ate here for the first time in years. First, the service could not have been better. The prices were high and the food was not up to par. We were very disappointed. His chicken fried steak was so burned that it was visibly dark. As expected, the cook put gravy on it which covered most of the burned edges. I wanted my husband to return it, but he wouldn’t since you’re never sure what you’re gonna get from a kitchen once you’ve offended them. Even our server thought he should return it. I ordered a salad with crispy chicken on it. The salad was actually quite good, as was the chicken, except for the large piece pieces of very old ‘core’ from the lettuce. I picked them off. If the prices had been lower, I don’t think it would’ve been so disappointing but the food definitely does not make us want to return.

Outstanding! Staff is friendly and efficient. The place is clean and well-maintained. Hubby had the delicious fall off the bone ribs. I had the ribeye steak. The house salads are very simple but made with fresh ingredients. The steak was done to order, juicy, tender and well-seasoned. The sides were great with yummy green beans and REAL mashed potatoes with tasty country gravy. Foodies won’t be impressed, but if you’re looking for great down home eats, this is the place. We’ll definitely be back! -Tam &Jon, Council Grove

Ok the old building was a lot better it wasn’t over crowded and food tasted better. Tonight the wife and I went to check it out and we waited 10 minutes to be seated do to they had reservations which wasn’t a bad thing but they sat a group of 10 or so. Well they waiting staff thought it would be a great idea to seat the kids of that group away from the adults and put the kids right next to us. They argued yelling. Why not put the parents at our table and seat us where they were Idk but it was just a bad experience all together

A wonderful bar/restaurant offering delicious food options. The ladies who waited on our group of 15 did an amazing job, friendly, efficient. This restaurant has been open in Emporia for many years, we definitely will continue to enjoy it whenever we’re town. My loaded baked potato was amazing! Topped with pulled pork, perfectly smoked, I definitely recommend it as a meal.

Incredible place! The staff are real nice and always eager to help. The food was incredible! Someone had posted a photo of their famous steak and I had to try for myself. Truly was amazing. So far definitely going back.

This is the most awful food I have ever had . The steak was tough and tons of fat covered with ground pepper and other spices. Couldn’t eat the potato. Building is not great either

My husband received a raw steak and our server never came back to check on us, So he just ate it. The green beans and mashed potatoes both lacked seasoning. One person seated us, One person took our orders and brought our drinks. Another person brought us our food, and then I had to go find somebody so, I could pay the ticket. We won’t be coming back.

UPDATE to Owner’s Response to my review (one month prior to now)… I said, “as expected,” the Chicken Fried Steak was covered in gravy. The point was that it covered some of the burned edges of the steak and they didn’t show in the photo, I did not imply that anyone was hiding anything as some burned edges were showing. And it’s completely reasonable for a customer to be concerned about returning food to the kitchen and having a new plate sent out. We don’t know your cook. You weren’t watching him/her. Our best course of action was to eat what was actually edible and leave.
