We had actually made Christmas reservations at another hibachi/steakhouse in Smithfield, but when we called to see if we could move our reservation back, no one answered the phone. We felt like we were stranded on the holiday.
My stepdaughter called WAFU, and they said they’d love to have us.
We arrived about 30 minutes later and were greeted by a very friendly staff. We ordered soda & sushi. The sushi was really fresh & flavorful.
Then we ordered hibachi. Our hibachi chef was a white dude named Josh. Our chefs in the past have always been Japanese, so there was some apprehension on our part.
Josh ended up being the best grill chef we ever had. He put on an incredible show, kept my 3 year old granddaughter entertained, and served up some of the best hibachi we’ve ever had!
So, what we thought was going to be a disaster turned out to be the best thing that could have happened with us on Christmas day. The food was great, the portions were really generous and I felt like we got great value for the cost. We took a lot home and will be eating WAFU for dinner with the leftovers.
Visit WAFU, and if you call ahead, be sure to ask for Josh.

We visited on 1/10/26 for my sister’s birthday. Josh was our Chef and Chris was our waiter. Josh exceeded our expectations. He was fantastic!! Chris did a wonderful job as well. Our meals were perfect. I would suggest portable AC units do to the heat from the grill. Overall 10 out of 10!

Not a fan. I have to give them credit, they took It off my bill. But the Avacado bomb was terrible. There was some weird hard fried things in the middle that had the texture of a crab shell. The tempura bento Box that my bf got.. even worse. Just.. don’t.. NO flavor.

My sons and I love this place and it’s our favorite place to eat. The staff is always friendly and we’ve never had a bad experience. Tonight we went for an early dinner and Josh was our chef. He was definitely the best we ever had…. really nice and very entertaining. The food was delicious.

Stopped by here for my wife’s Birthday dinner! We were the only 2 at the table.
Josh was our chef and did a fantastic job entertaining us and with our food!
I mentioned it was her birthday and you should’ve seen the way they treated her! Like a Queen for a day! She was ecstatic!
Thank you all for making her birthday even better!

Had a large party of 10. Hibachi chef Josh was amazing! Food was on point and his show was awesome like something expected from a large town like Miami. Most definitely wonderful hibachi. Will be back and request Josh everytime.

I recently visited Wafu, a Japanese restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. The service was disappointing, with staff distracted by their phones instead of attending to customers. The ambiance was underwhelming; we were seated at a regular table (not the one that chef cooks in front of me, I’m just complained for the normal dining table )

This was my second visit, hoping for improvement, but sadly, it fell short again. The food was not fresh, overpriced, and the taste was mediocre at best. If given a choice, I wouldn’t come back.

Overall, I am deeply disappointed with this restaurant and would not recommend it.

We had the best meal with our extended family at Wafu, (group of 9). Our Hibachi chef, Josh, was amazing! He put on the most memorable show that the kids will always remember and the food couldn’t have been better!

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
Food was ok. Service was fine. Our server was young and definitely trying to make a living. She was attentive, and obviously pretty new to this role. She’s learning and I can appreciate that.

The place appeared to be clean and newly renovated. The exhaust fans and the grills were noticeably cleaner than what we are accustomed to. We were definitely grateful for that.

The seating arrangements were closer than we are used to in DC/MD/VA. There were literally five people in our party (four adults and a toddler). There were also two other couples seated with us around one grill.

We spent over $200.00 and the chef stole shrimp from us. (See video) Very disheartening that your employees have to steal food.

We ordered the Samurai dinner, an additional order of scallops, two Mai Tai, children shrimp, chicken and fried rice, salmon and shrimp, vegetable sushi, steak hibachi, and whatever else is on the receipt.

I usually make it my business to graciously tip the chef and graciously tip the server. I did not tip the chef anything because he took his own tip today.

Not sure how they generally tip in Goldsboro NC but the waitress/server was super shocked by receiving a 25% gratuity. I’ve never had two strong Mai Tai for $9.00 each. That’s absolutely unheard of in our neck of the woods.

I expect for Wafu to contact me and make this right.

Took the family here for my birthday dinner. We did the hibachi. Josh was our chef. He was by far the most entertaining chef I have ever had at any hibachi restaurant! The food was also delicious! My family sang Happy Birthday to me. The server heard it and came back with a fried ice cream with a candle in it! Great place!
