Perfect Clam Chowder – Just Steps from the Aquarium!
We were craving great clam chowder after the Monterey Bay Aquarium and found it at Vivolo’s—only two blocks away! Their New England-style is creamy, loaded with tender clams, and absolutely delicious (we had it in a regular bowl—spot-on).
The steamed clams were fresh and flavorful in a buttery white wine broth. Paired with a refreshing guava mimosa, it was an ideal combo.
Service was outstanding—friendly and attentive. A must-try for seafood fans so close to the aquarium!

After car camping, my boyfriend and I wanted to treat ourselves to good food before driving back home. Upon arriving, we were seated right away. The menu had a lot to offer, so we took our time reading it before choosing what to eat. We started with the Clam Chowder and Fried Calamari for our appetizers. The serving were huge considering the price for both orders were decent. Our main dishes came longer to arrive. It was a plus that they served the appetizers fresh, hot and also on time. My boyfriend and I devoured the sandwich and the plate that we ordered, we even had enough to bring home for leftovers and eat during our drive back. I would have loved to give a 5 star rating, but I’m deducting one as we noticed that two servers during the shift were literally looking away while walking the opposite direction as if they didn’t see us asking for help. Overall, I would still recommend this place.

This could have definitely been a 5-star experience. Our family ordered the kids spaghetti marinara, kids chicken and fries, 2 cups of chowder, the house special pasta, and the chicken piccata. Everything came out promptly and was delicious with the exception of the chicken piccata. It was waaaaaay waaay way too salty.

Excellent place! The food was exquisite. We ordered the clams in wine, the clam chowder, and the house pasta an excellent choice. The staff was very attentive, and the service was top-notch. We’ll definitely return on our next trip. You can dine outside; the breeze and the heater made the evening even more enjoyable. The beers were also very good

If you’re looking for great clam chowder..LOOK NO FURTHER! My boyfriend and I stopped at this place on the way home from San Francisco and to our surprise it had the BEST clam chowder we’ve had the entire trip!!! The chowder is not too thick or thin, lots of clams inside, flavorful, and the bread bowl was INCREDIBLY fresh and soft. The garlic and cheese lid add on is absolutely delicious. I have never tasted fresher garlic. In all, this place is a 10/10 and I highly recommend stopping by!

It was our last night in California, and we wanted our last meal to be clam chowder, so we went to Vivolo’s Chowder House.
Food: This restaurant has by far the BEST flavor chowder we’ve ever tasted! No wonder the name of the restaurant involves the word “chowder”. All the fish at Vivolo’s Chowder House is local from the area, which made all the dishes magnificent! And finally, the kids meal has a variety of options, which is extremely helpful!
Atmosphere: The decorations inside Vivolo’s Chowder House are all related to the area – they have posters of rising, statues of seas, and has a chill vibe.
Service: For the dinner rus, the restaurant wasn’t dramatically busy (I would it even call it busy at all), and therefore resulted in the service being exceptional! Our waiter was kind and the wait time to free curve the food was not bad at all.

The clam chowder was good; not too thick and not too thin with decent flavors. But there were not many clam pieces that I could discern as most were tiny and the few slightly bigger ones a bit too chewy. The best that I’ve had also include tender potato chunks and freshly chopped Italian parsely. In fact, I’d call it a clam-flavored chowder as in was 98% flour and the other ingredients that go into a clam chowder. There is no reason why they can’t get tender clams and put more of them in the CLAM CHOWDER!
The calamari sandwich was also good, served with a side of excellent fries. The thick calamari steak was lightly fried and reasonably tender. It was served on a nice soft sesame roll with tartar sauce, lettuce, tomato, and red onions. My only complaint that now, in the middle of peak tomato season, the tomato slices were pink and almost tasteless.
The service was fast and efficient. I wanted to give it four stars, but my disappointment with their signature clam chowder made it three.
