At check-in, we informed the staff that we were celebrating our anniversary, requested a window seat, and planned to arrive at 7:00 PM. We were told that the window tables were reserved and that we could be seated elsewhere. We then spoke with the concierge and asked them to speak with the restaurant staff, as I am a Titanium and Lifetime Platinum member with Marriott. The concierge informed us that the restaurant does not reserve seats and that if we arrived first, we should be able to sit by the window.
Based on this information, we adjusted our plans and arrived at 6:00 PM. Despite this, the service we received was noticeably inferior compared to the gentleman seated alone nearby. His beer was refilled frequently, and staff regularly checked on him. We did not receive the same attention; my glass sat empty, and I had to ask for another drink.
At the end of our meal, we waited 10–15 minutes for the check to be brought to our table. At that time, there were still very few guests in the restaurant, and it was largely empty, so there was no apparent reason for the slow service.
Additionally, our anniversary was never acknowledged, despite us clearly stating the reason for our visit. You will not have another opportunity to make this right. For reasons that remain unclear, there was a clear difference in the level of service we received, which was disappointing and unacceptable at an establishment of this caliber.
The food was okay. Of course, it’s a bit unfair to compare Italian cuisine in Italy, or even Germany, with Italian food so far from its source, since ingredient freshness plays a big role. Taking that into account, I’d rate it a 4. If it were in Europe, probably a 3.
The Egyptian wine was fine, not super flavorful, but good enough.
We left and went to the Italian restaurant at the St Regis, where we were welcomed warmly and treated… like potential paying guests
For a property of this supposed calibre, perhaps they should hire people who can at least fake interest in hospitality, or at least get the training slides from their neighbor.
If you ever in Cairo, do not miss this hidden gem!
I highly recommend
