Spanish small plates include bacon-wrapped dates at this buzzy spot with European flair & cocktails.

Service was great! We sat at the bar and got our drinks quickly. Drinks were delicious. We ordered a variety of different tapas. However, one after the other we began to notice the quality and taste was average. We also ordered the paella and it was also disappointing unfortunately. No crust at the bottom but there was a good amount of seafood.

Love their tapas! Great way to try different dishes in one visit. Highly recommend the sangria! The decorations are beautiful, and the whole place gives an authentic Spanish atmosphere.

We had a good meal of tapas here. We came by on a Saturday afternoon and were quoted a 25min walk. She was right on and we got a text at 5:10. The food came out quick and the server was super friendly. We got a half liter of the sangria which was a great value, getting us each 2 glasses. We had patatas bravas, melon and serrano, steak in white wine sauce, mushrooms in garlic, chicken empanada, pan con tomate, and bacon wrapped dates and all were good. The ambiance of this place is cute!

Hospitality and vibe is great. Very tight seating inside but in a good way. Prices and portions are fair. Mocktails were weak. No garnishes or color or anything notable about them to justify the price. The tapas were good and interesting, except the cheese/strawberry dish which was served missing the fresh mint. What brings everything down is the paella. The meat was too dry and there was zero evidence of any saffron in the dish. Very flavorless. Still, one of the more interesting restaurants in Claremont.

Sorry to say, but it’s a big no. Almost everything was reheated, and it didn’t seem neither cooked the same day of our visit. The patatas bravas were saggy, and the shrimps (the gambas con tocino) were hard as if heated and reheated twenty times. The mussels were chewy in a bowl of marinara sauce (no please) and the croquetas de pescado were a sort of mousse inside, no fish taste at all. The rest of the tapas were without guts and without glory (gazpacho, tortilla and the octopus). The service was not really good. The only positive thing is that it is very nice inside, nice decorations and atmosphere. What a disappointment!

We took our mother/ mother in law here for a birthday dinner. Just my husband, his mother and myself. Couldn’t have been more disappointed. Ordered stuffed mushrooms, rabo de torro, patatas bravas, cooked veggies, and calamari. The best thing was the wine and our bread with oil and vinegar. Calamari looked undercooked but it was like eating leather. Honestly awful and my mother in law was so excited to order this. I didn’t say anything about how bad it was until she did because she never complains. The Rabo was no where to be found in the soup of liquid it came in… we were laughing trying to find what we were supposed to eat. Lots of bones… no meat. Patatas bravas were missing any kind of cream which…. if you go to Spain many areas fix it differently so I was like…. it was meh. Nice kick but no pizzazz. The veggies were OK but nothing to write home about. The last thing to come was the stuffed mushrooms with chorizo. We looked at the tiny little brown balls like what the heck is that?? Tasted as bad as they looked. My 84 year old mother in law who never complains was like…. Nope! No thank you. She had one and was done. Honestly I regreted eating the 2nd one but did it because I was still hungry. Couldn’t have been more disappointed with our food. My mother in law from Spain and my husband were very disappointed and noted to never bring any of our family here. Embarrassing! Sorry… but no bueno!

We had been wanting to try this place for awhile. We used to love La Luna Negra in Pasadena and we were hoping this place was similar. Sadly it was not. The food was not good. Had the pan con Tomate basically dry toasted bread that was cold with a tomato paste w zero flavor. We had the chicken empanada it looked like no other empanada I’ve seen or eaten in my life. Came with a weird sauce and was square. I’ll say it was okay but just not at all a traditional empanada in a way. The chicken croquettas were dry and flavorless. But the worst was the paella. We waited over 30 minutes for it and were so disappointed. We’ve had plenty of paella and this was bad, the rice was so mushy and it was beyond bland! No seasoning no flavor. Just mush. I’ve never seen paella served with zucchini and green beans on top. Weird! Even the sangria wasn’t great served with no ice in little glasses and the only fruit was teeny tiny bits of watermelon. I will say the place is cute and that ambience is nice. Our server was nice. But if you like good food I do not recommend

A Taste of Spain in the Heart of Claremont Village. Viva Madrid has been one of my favorite restaurants for years, and its quality remains outstanding. After a recent trip to Spain, I was apprehensive about comparing the food upon my return. However, Viva Madrid’s dishes are just as good as the authentic Spanish food I enjoyed abroad. The ambiance is charming, reminiscent of an elegant pirate ship’s quarters, making it perfect for a fun date or simply getting lost in its unique atmosphere. Their Sangria is absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend this place for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.
