First stop for the best Tavern style pizza in Chicago left us with a bad taste in our mouths…literally.
The sauce was very bland. The cheese was just, ok. Yes the crust was cracker thin and decent. The pepperoni was less than average. The sausage? Being nice here….it was not good. My son had the spaghetti with garlic bread. The noodles were hard and the tomato sauce was simply, tomatoes. No flavor. And the garlic bread was not as good as the texas style store bought.
The pizza finally got flavor when the side order of spicy giardiniera arrived, after having to flag down the server. Speaking of server….. The service was horrible as she spoke zero words to us and was absolutely not personable. Our bill was $71. We left $83 on the table, only to have the server running after us outside, telling us we shorted her. Actually, she mumbled it. We did not stiff her. We tipped nearly 20% for an awful experience. Our opinion? Overrated. Hopeful we will find a great tavern style pizza this coming week.

They’ve been around for over 100 years and are known as one of the best tavern style pizza restaurants in Chicago, and they lived up to the hype! I shared fries and a pizza with mushrooms and green peppers. The fries were crispy but slightly over-salted. The pizza crust is light yet firm which had the perfect tavern style crunch. The cheese had that slightly oily, rich flavor you want without being greasy, and there was just enough sauce. This was the best thin crust pizza I’ve had in the midwest!

Vito and Nicks is all over lists for one of Chicago’s best pizza spots. One of the finer cracker crust options Chicagoland has to offer.
It’s certainly a good pizza, unique cheese blend on top really paired well with the ground sausage. Bottom crust stayed crispy crunchy even down to the last slice. I could see being repeat customers if I lived closer, but this is almost like the middle of nowhere for me.
Vito and Nicks deserves recognition for its pizza, It doesn’t crack my top 10, but it’s probably top 20 or so.

I’ve been wanting to try Vito and Nick’s pizza for a while now. On a recent trip to Chicago, I finally got the chance. The restaurant had a classic old school feel, it felt like walking into a bar from a 90s sitcom! Service was great, pizza was ready on time. The toppings were all very fresh and tasted amazing, very high quality, as was the cheese. The cheese and toppings were both a generous amount. The sauce was excellent, very nicely seasoned and a good amount. The thin crust was cooked perfectly. The pizza had a nice smoky taste to it. Overall an amazing tavern style pizza from a historic icon. If you are in the area or even from away and you get the chance, try out Vito and Nick’s. It’s not every day you get to try pizza from a place that’s been around over 100 years, I’m glad i got to experience it.

In Chicago for the weekend visiting from upstate NY. We stopped by Vito & Nick’s on the way in. We had a half cheese and half pepperoni and a sausage. Super thin crust, Good char in the undercarriage with zero flop. Tomato sauce was fresh tasting and the toppings were good with a good cheese to sauce ratio. This place had been in operation for 120 years and it’s easy to see why.

Even tho it’s been on Diners Drive-ins and Dives, it was popular way before. Their cracker crust pizza is a staple everytime I visit the south side of Chicago. CASH ONLY…. They get very busy & fast.. All their food is really great, the calamari is great but the pizza is my go to. We always get 1 pizza with fresh cracked egg on it, yes it’s different or odd but it’s really good. Make the trip and stop in. This is three original one on Pulaski rd

The rumors are true, this is the best tavern style pizza you will find. Operating out of the same location for 105 years, this place makes a pizza crust that is impossibly thin, crunchy, and airy. Imagine a crunchy cloud with delicious pizza toppings. We drove 2hours round trip (weekend traffic) from the north side and it was worth it. Cash only, no atm on site.

Vito & Nick’s Pizzeria – Chicago
Cracker-thin crust perfection. Ordered a large cheese pizza with green peppers, onions, and mushrooms and every bite was LOADED with flavor. Fresh cheese, fresh toppings, crazy aroma—straight up addictive.
Classic hole-in-the-wall vibes with real Chicago history. Super relaxed, no frills, all flavor. Cash only, but 100% worth it. If you love thin-crust pizza done right, this spot is elite. Classic Chicago tavern pizza

Haven’t been here in 17 years. But took my mom who has never been. It was an amazing experience. Exactly what I remember and expecting. I had a PBR on draft, my mom had a Red Candy Apple Martini which was the special drink for the holiday season. We got a large sausage and green pepper pizza (well done). And the pizza was amazing!!! The crust is paper thin so we ate the whole thing! If you are looking for amazing pizza from a place that has been in Chicago for over 100 years. This is it. I just hope it doesn’t take me 17 years to make my way back. The pizza is way too good to wait that long again.
P.S. This is a cash only establishment
