Service was excellent.
For my meal, I had the baked scallops with a Caesar salad and a loaded baked potato. Everything was fresh and delicious. My wife ordered the Tuscan chicken, which I tried as well—and it was fantastic. I’ll probably go for that next time.
We finished off the meal with dessert and were not disappointed. The baked cookie skillet was warm, and perfectly indulgent, while the apple crisp had a great balance of sweetness and spice with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
The ambiance was casual, warm, and inviting—perfect for a family celebration. All around, a memorable evening with great food, relaxed atmosphere, and excellent staff.
Additionally while the adults were chatting, my kids had fun playing rock paper scissors with the staff at the hostess station.
Vita Bella, in plain sight on Route 133 in Essex, has become one of our weekly go to restaurants Since Alchemy, which used to be on Main Street in downtown Gloucester, closed a few years before Covid there has been no comparative alternative. Gloucester is actually somewhat of a culinary desert in terms of choice, with no tapas bars, mezze, Thai or Indian restaurants. We love everything about Vita Bella; a booth by the window, very friendly service, very generous cocktails, tasty food and unhurried ambience and ultra generous parking. Vita Bella has offerings to suit all tastes; they have recently installed a gluten free fryolator . My wife has sampled: Chicken Bacon ranch flatbread, mussels Bianca, eggplant parmigiana and beef bolognese. She loved them all. I am a vegetarian and have gravitated to the Eggplant Napoleon, which is a mouth watering concoction of mozzarella, fried eggplant and vodka cream sauce. I have never ever seen this on a menu anywhere else. It is one of those dishes that is so yummy it is a must have, so I order it every time I visit. Sometimes we indulge in desserts and have both enjoyed the chocolate cheesecake, crème brûlée and affogato. Vita Bella has a very creative martini list. They recently made some interesting drinks to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. We find it extremely helpful that they separate out the straight up martini style drinks from those served on the rocks. We like our cocktails to be straight up and were delighted that they were willing to serve any cocktail straight up. See photos of our favorite dishes. We are making a visit to Vita Bella a weekly event; you should too
After living in England for over 25 years AND Italy for a few, my heart was crying out for a restaurant like Vita Bella. It brought back fond memories because it looks like a British eatery/pub but, the food tastes like you’re in Tuscany!
So, I willingly admit I’m a bit obsessed with this warm + wonderful restaurant. (And their tasty signature popovers are fabulous.)
Vita Bella actually means ‘beautiful life’ in Italian. And this is apt because by the time you finish your dining experience life FEELS beautiful!
