Our server Moira was accommodating and attentive without being over the top. She had some good suggestions and had a great sense of humor. When we stretched the evening from dinner to another round of drinks the shifts change. It was seamless. The next waiter had the same spirit of customer service.
We ate relatively light with brussel sprouts and pizza. Both were right out of a master chef’s kitchen with high quality ingredients and layers of flavor that made them special dishes.
I know a little about wine and was ready for a flight, but I spotted a hard to find Cabernet Franc. It was a delicious wine. The other drinks ordered were equally good.
I can’t wait to return for the blackened grouper and more Cabernet Franc.
I ordered soup, a baked potato, and a side of carrots. My friend ordered cheese curds and the grouper entrée. A couple who arrived about 10 minutes after us received their food first. When I asked about our order, the response was that they “thought we wanted everything at the same time,” which had never been discussed.
The side of carrots was about 1/3 of a carrot sliced paper-thin. I sent it back. My friend’s grouper plate had polenta, no garnish, no vegetable, and no presentation. It looked careless and unfinished. It gave cafeteria food vibes.
We were told they were short-staffed. This isn’t the first disappointing experience here, but it will be the last.
I want to support local businesses, but there are plenty that deliver better service, portions, and consistency without excuses.
I ordered a burger with an Impossible patty and fries. The pickles and tomatoes were just tiny, thin slivers, the bun was overcooked and too small for the patty, and even the barbecue sauce and mayonnaise had odd, cheap flavors. My mom had the French onion soup, which she said had hardly any onions and tasted like eating a bowl of salt water. For dessert, we tried the carrot cake—it was dry, stale, and seemed several days old. The food is extremely overpriced given the quality of ingredients. The only bright spot was the service—our waitress was attentive, kind, and on top of everything.
Overall, unless you’re just going for boozy drinks, I’d avoid this place. There are plenty of restaurants in the Algonquin area with much better food at the same or lower price. Total disappointment.
Appetizers excellent!
Wine good.
Salad good.
Carrot cake was disappointing (dry, freezer burn)
We will return again.
Everyone here is so friendly and lovely. The food is amazing and the team are accommodating for dietary restrictions and double check things for us all the time (I have celiac).
We love the Vintner! You’ll be glad you came here.
