Tucked away in Hanalei, Village Snack Shop & Bakery is a hidden gem. Affordable and delicious, the chili pepper chicken is next level. Crispy skin, juicy meat, it’s like if Korean fried chicken and sweet and sour chicken had a baby

Excellent food & Service and reasonably priced. All the Locals eat here. It is Hidden and cannot be seen from the parking lot. Use your Google Maps. Park and Walk in between the Surf Board Shop and the directory. There are other shops back there. For breakfast You must try the spam sandwich as an appetizer while your food is being prepared. It is only $3 & the delicious warm donuts. Opens at 8am-3pm closed Tuesday and Wednesdays. Here are Photos of the menu

We stopped in this morning. With about 15 minutes left to order breakfast. We got the 1/2 order of their Loco Moco, a side of bacon, and a bagel with cream cheese.
Food was excellent. You order at the counter. Cost was reasonable. Plus no waiting. Seemed like a local spot as we were the only tourists. Off the beaten path. Definitely recommend.

More locals than tourists which is usually a good sign but the food was ok and my husband said it was the worst loco moco he has ever had! The chilipepper. Hicken was ok with one scoop of rice and one so so Mac salad So for $18 a plate I would pass!

You know it’s good when an EMT who frequents here happily endorsed the food! We got the Chilipepper Fried Chicken. So tender and juicy and sweet and spicy, much better than another place we tried with the same dish! The lady who works here was also very kind and a joy to speak with.

I ordered the loco moco which was almost certainly microwaved. The burger patty was piping hot with uneven temperature. The sauce also tasted microwaved and not fresh. Food was affordable I suppose

I used to enjoy this place, but unfortunately the quality has gone downhill. The food is now pretty mediocre—often dry, not very fresh, and served in much smaller portions than before. There’s really nothing special about it anymore, and with other options nearby, it doesn’t feel worth it.
The experience inside is also disappointing. The tables are usually dirty, the interior feels gloomy, and to make matters worse, they got my order wrong twice. While they did eventually refund me, it took a lot of back-and-forth on the phone to get it resolved.
Honestly, L&L Hawaiian BBQ right next door is a much better choice. Sad to say, but Village Snack Shop & Bakery just doesn’t seem to care about food or customers the way they once did.

I honestly didn’t expect much at first, but wow—it was incredibly delicious! The sweetness was perfectly balanced. The banana pie and cornbread were my absolute favorites—so good, it felt unreal.
