Reviews
After reading some reviews I thought I’d come in for lunch and have the salad and slice special. The reviewer posted a picture, and the salad and pizza looked great. My salad, though tasty, was not as full as the one I had seen in the review, and the greens were warm and limp. The flavor, however, was good. The pizza was ok. I thought the flavor of the sauce was good. Crust also tasted good, but was not crispy at all underneath the pizza. It was actually kind of soggy. If it was cooked a little bit more it would have been much better.
I also ordered a chicken parm sub. The bread was fantastic. Some of the best bread I’ve had in the area. The chicken cutlets were not good at all, and we’re obviously from a factory. There was very little sauce, and the sandwich, as a whole, was very dry. I would not recommend it.
Overall a nice place with attractive decor and good location. It is fairly clean but I noticed that some of the tables were not wiped down with lots of crumbs and bits on them. I was there soon after they opened and hopefully this was just missed and isn’t typical.
This place has lots of potential and I plan on coming back. I would like to try some other items and give the pizza another chance, since I did like the flavor of the sauce and crust.
Maybe I’ll come in for the happy hour I saw advertised.
UPDATE… Made it back out to Village Pizza Co. with the family. Pizza was MUCH better this time. Love the crust. Tried the meatball sub and it was very good. Meatballs were nice and tasty. It would be difficult to eat this as a sandwich. I had to deconstruct it and eat the meatballs with a fork. The remaining bread with sauce and cheese was wonderful. My family enjoyed their items as well.
Give them a try!
Pickle pizza-surprisingly good (if you like pickles)
Sweet and spicy-good balance. Not overly hot
Veggie-fresh toppings. Could use a little more cheese in my opinion
My only knock was that it took 15 minutes more than it listed when I booked online.
The menu has a lot of great options, and I’m excited to try the pizza next — my picky daughter and her friends swear it’s amazingly good. The space is cute, contemporary, and very clean, and the staff has been consistently friendly and helpful. There’s also a bar and plenty of seating.
It’s a great spot for just about anything: family dinner, a casual date, or hanging out with friends — and it feels welcoming for all ages. Bonus points for the convenient location right at the front of Tollgate Village. Highly recommend.
You come in without ceremony and are met by the gentle comfort of familiarity. The room does not rush you. It lets you be present. Conversations unfold easily at nearby tables, the kind that belong to ordinary days and therefore matter most. There is nothing showy here, nothing that insists on attention. Instead, everything seems confident enough to remain exactly as it is.
The pizza arrives warm and generous, composed with a care that feels habitual rather than calculated. The crust holds together without effort. The sauce tastes balanced and honest. The cheese does what it ought to do, which is more than many manage. Each slice feels dependable in the best sense of the word, the kind of food you trust and return to without needing to explain why.
What stands out most is the steadiness of the place. The staff move with an ease that comes from knowing their work and their people. They are attentive without hovering, friendly without performance. You sense that they recognize not just faces, but patterns, families, Fridays, and habits built over years.
Village Pizza is not trying to be discovered. It is content to be known. It serves as a small but meaningful anchor in the rhythm of Athens life, a reminder that consistency, when paired with care, becomes its own quiet excellence.
You leave satisfied, not only because you have eaten well, but because you have been somewhere that understands the value of staying true. It is the kind of place you recommend softly, confidently, knowing it will speak for itself.
The subs are also excellent. The Chicken Parm sub may be my favorite thing in the menu. The chicken on it is just incredible, and the pesto adds a little something extra.
They also have a full bar with some local draft selections and a good signature cocktail menu. The Hot Honey Old Fashioned is always a winner. The bar is also full-service, so you can order there instead of the front registers.
