We always come here when we would like to have a Vietnamese food. It’s the best Vietnam foods in Calgary. The staffs are super nice too and we love the coupon systems they have too! Server Anthony is also really nice and kind he helped us a lot! We had such a wonderful meal every time we visit here. We highly recommend here!

I was directly asked to leave a 5-star review, it’s only fair to share my honest experience but I cannot give 5 stars based on my experience.
The young staff overall seem polite, but I personally was asked to leave a 5-star review, and I also overheard staff asking other tables to do the same. This made all these reviews below feel pressured rather than genuine.
There was also a noticeable issue with customer service. One member, who appeared to be in a supervisory or managerial role and was on the floor wearing a white T-shirt, gave an uncomfortable impression most times I come here. His attitude did not feel welcoming, and the overall atmosphere felt tense.
The most disappointing part was the food handling. I clearly requested no cilantro, as it strongly affects the flavor of the soup for me. Despite this, the dish arrived with cilantro. When I pointed it out, the bowl was taken back to kitchen and cilantro was simply picked out and returned to my table. Unfortunately, the taste was still there and pieces were still visible and I could not finish.
I genuinely hope the restaurant focuses more on respecting customer requests and improving service rather than asking for 5-star ratings. Honest reviews will come naturally when that happens.

Phos amazing, staffs friendly as well, especially Sue and Anthony, they are super friendly and being positive every time I visit. My favorite pho is #28, it’s a MUST try!

We’ve been to some Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants in Calgary, and Viet Hai is my new favorite. The place is clean, the staff are nice, the food we ordered was delicious, the veggies are fresh, and we never waited long for our orders. We will surely be back again to try other dishes.

Lovely, locally family owned business with so much variety on the menu! They offer daily specials and featured items. I ended up choosing the Papa Pham special, which included their dill fish noodle soup, absolutely full of flavor. The service was excellent as well. 10/10, would definitely recommend!

My first and last time (and potentially for my neighbours and network too). Got seated before the table was actually cleaned (hey no one minds waiting while you clean). And then when the Pho got served, no utensil and napkins were given. The last time I checked it is rather rude to eat Pho with your hand. Also most Vietnamese places have utensils and napkins readily available on the table for self service unless it is an upscale restaurant which clearly this is not, not to mention that the hot sauce bottle is clogged and nothing came out despite hard squeezing.
I only tried this place to support local businesses (I assume most customers won’t be crazy enough to drive from outside the West side to eat here). Perhaps the steady students population don’t care about services ? The price is only $1 or 2 cheaper than the nearby Pho Pham in Signal Hill but services and food are worlds apart.
The temperature of the soup is also on the colder side. While kids may love it this is not what I am looking for on a cold, freezing winter day. This place Really needs to improve the service (consider automating and using iPads for ordering and cut the human emotion out of the equation: think about the declining population and how much you can save on salaries and dealing with employee personalities by automating to the bones and becoming more self serve oriented).

Best Vietnamese food in this area. You can taste the authenticity of their soup unlike those new “hip” places. It’s a privilege to have this restaurant close to home.
Clean environment, great price and great service as well. They even have happy hours with discounts. Anthony and the rest of the serving team are great as well.

We are glad there’s a best Vietnamese restaurant in Calgary is near our house. Staffs are super kind and foods are really good too. We visit here every week. Specially the server called Anthony is so nice and kind and he is the best server here. Food is always great and we will definitely visit here every week as an usual!

Absolutely fantastic Vietnamese spot in Calgary!
I had the Fish Cake Noodle Soup (Bún chả cá) — one of the few places in Calgary that does it right. The flavor profile was authentic and perfectly balanced with the dill, and I loved the added touch of lightly breaded fish alongside the fish cakes. It gave the dish great texture and depth.
We also tried the Sea Dragon Roll — their spring rolls filled with mixed seafood — and it was one of the most creative and delicious takes on spring rolls I’ve had at any Vietnamese restaurant in YYC.
Viet Hai’s menu is deep with a wide variety of authentic Vietnamese dishes, and everything we tried was on point. I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more!
