When I’m faced with the plethora of usual options like McDonald’s, Subway and Taco Bell, I get really depressed and long for places like this. But they don’t really exist in America anymore. Solid home-cooked meals at a reasonable price served by friendly staff. 10 out of 10.

Ordered the Gyro Deluxe and unsweetened tea at Vienna Diner. Server was polite at first, but then I spot foil flakes—actual metal—mixed in the meat. Pulled ‘em out, showed her. She goes, ‘Want something else?’ I said, ‘Let me look over the menu real quick.’ She took the food back. While going over the menu I overheard the kitchen guy mutter, ‘probably just a chicken-nugget eater.’ What? I told her I will leave her a tip but, she cuts me off—‘No, just pay for the tea.’ Felt rude, like I owed her for nothing. Left two bucks anyway. Food’s fine, but the whole vibe? Off. Two stars. Won’t be back.
