Reviews
The food was good in several aspects, but not flawless. The oysters were a standout — fresh, clean, and a really nice addition to the meal. The steak was cooked properly and had a great texture, but it lacked a bit of seasoning and that extra something that makes a steak truly memorable. The potatoes especially were very bland and had virtually no taste, which was disappointing for a fine dining spot.
The main drawback is the pricing. While the quality was solid in parts, the cost feels high for what you get compared to other fine dining restaurants in the area. You expect a bit more boldness and refinement at that price point. Still, with the excellent service and inviting ambiance, it was a great first experience.
We were seated in a side room which was very nice to have a more private setting as we have had difficulty having dinner in other restaurants where the noise level is very high preventing an opportunity to have a conversation without yelling at each other. We did notice that the main dining room was also quite quiet although fairly full. Lots of noise baffling furniture etc.
Taking a look at the menu can be quite daunting as prices are quite high even for a high end Steakhouse. However we did go on a week day and took advantage of the special offering of a 6oz Tenderloin dinner including a starter, accompanied by choice of potato and a dessert for $65 pp. It was more than worth it! The entire meal was amazing. Flavorful and fresh … excellent all around.
Service was good but at times inconsistent in that dishes were not cleared quickly but all in all certainly satisfactory. Generally we just expect a higher level of service in a restaurant like this.
I highly recommend this establishment for a group of any size. Don’t settle for the Keg when there is a place like Victoria’s right in downtown Hamilton!
The Sunday to Thursday “Steakhouse Classics” menu was perfect for our steak loving family of four and while my Argentinian striploin upgrade was a little disappointing (and the chimichurri lacked flavour), the other three steaks were absolute perfection! I never thought another steak house could make The Keg look ordinary… and then we met Victoria!
We tried all four of the included apps and fought over which was better until landing on a four way first place podium… we may be watching too much Olympic coverage. Turns out we had the same problem with the desserts as we tried four different ones and loved them all as well. The sticky toffee does have a homemade honey comb that is out of this world however.
As for sides, the broccolini is served on a little bed of “what the hell is that and how is it so good” and the whipped potatoes were heaven sent!
Service was “with a smile” (and a few laughs), from the cuts of meat to the wine and cocktails everyone knew what they were talking about and communicated it clearly. Seriously, we have eaten at 55 restaurants in the Hammer since our return almost two years ago and Victoria’s is one of the best meals we have had in the city! Needless to say we love you too!
I also ordered a soup I didn’t really enjoy, she checked in on us and offered a salad replacement that was much better for my taste-board .
My first visit to Victoria’s Restaurant in Hamilton left a very positive impression from the moment I walked in. The dining room has an elegant yet welcoming atmosphere, with soft lighting and small lamps on each table that create an intimate setting—perfect for a relaxed dinner and good conversation.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the evening was the service. The attention from the staff was exceptional throughout the entire experience: warm, attentive, and genuinely professional without ever feeling intrusive. As it was my first time visiting the restaurant, they even offered a small complimentary appetizer as a welcome gesture, a thoughtful touch that immediately sets the tone for the evening.
That night I chose the Steakhouse Classics menu and decided to try one of the local cuts, the Ontario 14oz Ribeye. Since the menu also offers Argentinian beef, I thought it would be interesting to experience the local product instead.
The steak came with Truffle Fries and Chimichurri.
I suspect I may have made a small mistake with the doneness I selected, as the steak arrived slightly more cooked than I normally prefer, which made it feel a bit dry. I was also somewhat surprised by the thickness of the cut, which felt a little thinner than what I would typically expect from a ribeye at a steakhouse.
The chimichurri also didn’t quite work for me. It had a fairly pronounced acidity—likely from red wine vinegar—which ended up overpowering the sauce and taking a bit of attention away from the meat rather than complementing it.
Interestingly, the Truffle Fries ended up being the highlight of the plate. They were perfectly executed: crisp, aromatic, and finished with a subtle truffle flavor that made them incredibly enjoyable. It’s not usually what you expect to steal the spotlight in a steakhouse dish, but in this case they were outstanding.
To finish the evening, I ordered the Chocolate Torte, served with Gelato. Instead of the classic vanilla option, I requested pistachio gelato, which turned out to be an excellent choice. The gelato was fantastic—creamy, balanced, and full of authentic pistachio flavor.
The portion of the Chocolate Torte is quite generous, easily large enough to share.
Overall, Victoria’s stands out for its refined atmosphere and truly excellent service. While the steak didn’t fully meet my expectations, the overall experience was very enjoyable, and it’s definitely a place worth revisiting.
