Vic’s Rib Cage began as a seasonal barbecue business in Monticello back in 1992 by Victor’s father, Vance Florell. Working out of a concessions trailer, it became a popular destination in the Rogers and Dayton area for many years. We have now opened a year-round location at 530 Cedar St, inside the Nordic Brewing Company right here in Monticello where it all began. Eat in at our family friendly restaurant or place an order to-go for BBQ ribs, chicken, pork, beef, coleslaw & beans. We can also cater business lunches, weddings, and graduation parties

This father and son food truck operation has been around for more than 10 years. I’m not actually sure how long I discovered it around 2008. It’s at the Eastern edge of the marathon gas stations parking area walking distance from the trailer park, on the road side of Highway 81, and Brockton Lane, which is where South Highway 101 connects. It’s a busy area for a rural Crossroad. The only terrible thing about this place is its name. The rib cage is not the most appetizing, unlike their most appetizing barbecue. And they’re extremely appetizing prices. I mean a giant pulled pork sandwich is $6 add in beans and delicious coleslaw another $2.50. A full rack of ribs with all the fixings, and I mean a FULL RACK, which is considerably more ribs than anything you’ll ever get at any other barbecue place I know of when you order a full rack. $24. There are picnic tables for seating, but if it’s raining, you will get wet. I had a conversation with the operations part of the organization, the son. I was discussing how a place warrants 5 stars verses 4 stars in a rating. In my opinion both are performing products and services at the same level, a four-star is doing it as a work in progress, a five-star is a well-oiled and Polished streamlined operation. I told him his place wasn’t fancy but I couldn’t imagine why making it fancier would improve its ranking one bit. I even discussed how some places polished up and lost rating for doing it. Because the unpolished version had more character. This place has lots of character. If you get up this way before 10:30 in the morning, it’s worth waiting for them to open in order to get some of the best barbecue for lunch possible in the entire metro area.

A very solid 5 stars. Cherry smoked barbecue, enormous portion sizes, simple menu with an emphasis on quality. I don’t care for baked beans so I can’t speak to those. Barbecue sauce was excellent; sweet and mild. Coleslaw was well balanced; sweet, tangy, and creamy without being drippy or runny. Killebrew root beer and cream soda is a great touch. Fast, friendly service and no frills outstanding barbecue. They are open summer only so don’t be that moron who gives one star because he went in the off season.

The ribs here are nothing short of AMAZING. Convenient location just off 81. Prices are pretty decent too. We’ve tried the ribs, pulled pork, slaw and beans. It’s all delicious. Their BBQ sauce is also worth taking with you, and you can even get it in bottles to keep over the winter when they are not open. Love stopping here on the way home to pick up an easy dinner for the family!
My only complaint is that they are not open year round… Oh well, absence makes the belly grow fonder.. or something like that… right?

We have driven by this place for years and decided that it was time to try it. Had the ribs which were dry barbecued, great flavor. My wife had the beef sandwich. First time having beef ball roast barbecued. Great flavor and generous servings. Now we know how this place has survived for years, great food!

Please, please, please do not spoil this place.
These guys have been selling ribs and sandwiches on the side of the road since long before “food trucks” became an item.
Excellent BBQ!!!!!
if you need a “rib fix” this should be your destination of choice.
If not, I feel sorry for you.
By the way, when you visit buy a bottle of his BBQ sauce for five bucks and stick it in your fridge.
It’s the best I have found.
I recommend the hot flavor (Red top).

This is an outdoor venue, only open from May to mid October, iirc. My favorite menu item is a “Giant Pork Sandwich” with no bun. About a half pound of succulent deliciousness, along with there own BBQ sauce, in either mild or hot, for only $6.
Also on the menu are ribs, beef, beans and coleslaw. Only 1 picnic table available, otherwise its in your car, or take home.
Been stopping here for more than 10 years and never been disappointed with my purchase.

The most awesome ribs and sandwiches I’ve ever had. Too bad they are only around during the summer months. Although that can’t be all bad. Otherwise the novelty would wear off. Keep up the good work Rib Cage!! I’ll see you again soon.

Incredible BBQ! They serve up an amazing amount of food for a very reasonable price. They even sell bottles of their sauce.
If you don’t want take-out, you’ll be eating outside on picnic tables and using a porta-potty.
Still, if it’s a nice day (they’re closed over the winter) it’s a pleasant place to enjoy some fantastic BBQ.

Pretty good BBQ. I had the pork sandwich and for $6, you get a ton of meat. The bun was barely visible. Line gets very long at lunch time but they move everyone along fairly quickly. Next time I go, it’ll be to try the ribs.
