From the moment we walked into Via Roma, we knew we were in for something special. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between cozy and refined, making it ideal for both a relaxed dinner and a celebratory night out. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the exceptional service, attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling intrusive.

We started with two appetizers, and both set the tone beautifully.

The Fritto Misto — flash-fried calamari and zucchini served with a spicy marinara — was crisp, light, and perfectly seasoned. The calamari was tender (no rubbery bites here), and the zucchini added a subtle sweetness that paired wonderfully with the marinara’s gentle heat. It’s the kind of dish that disappears from the table quickly.

Next came the Polpettine, housemade beef meatballs in tomato sauce. These were rich, hearty, and clearly made with care. The tomato sauce deserves special mention, balanced, flavorful, and comforting without being overly acidic. You can taste the depth and slow-simmered quality in every bite.

For the main course, we ordered the Mare, a generous medley of lobster, shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels over linguine, with your choice of white or red sauce. This dish was the star of the evening. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly: the lobster tender, the shrimp plump, and the shellfish briny and vibrant. We opted for the red sauce, which complemented the seafood beautifully. The pasta was cooked al dente, tying the entire dish together with classic Italian precision.

If there was one minor disappointment, it was the soda. It was poured from a can and unfortunately tasted flat, which felt slightly out of place compared to the otherwise polished dining experience. That said, it was a small blemish on an otherwise excellent meal.

Overall, Via Roma delivers on flavor, freshness, and hospitality. The sauces are memorable, the seafood impressive, and the service truly outstanding. Aside from the minor soda hiccup, it was a fantastic dining experience, one we’d happily return for.

The food was delicious!! Not a very big place so its best to make reservations. It was a little bit of a wait, getting our main entrees but the staff were very kind.

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had at this price point in years. I usually give local businesses the benefit of the doubt, but in this case I cannot.

The atmosphere was immediately off-putting: the dining room was dimmed so low it felt more like eating in a cave than in an upscale restaurant. When we went to order appetizers, we were told entrees had to be ordered at the same time or we’d face a 50 minute delay between courses. Even if it was meant as 15 minutes, it was a bizarre comment, pacing between courses should never be an issue like that.

Service declined steadily after that. Urgency seemed to be the main theme: we were rushed through appetizers, then our entrees arrived quickly, with staff making an unnecessary fuss about timing. Dinner itself was mediocre at best certainly not worth $30 a head. A side of “julienne vegetables” turned out to be what looked like scraps hastily fried together. The “seasonal vegetable” required checks with the kitchen and was ultimately revealed to be sautéed spinach, a side already listed on the menu. Service execution was equally sloppy water refills were done by reaching across the entire table, something I’ve never experienced at any respectable establishment.

The final straw came with the check. Our server immediately assumed one person would pay for the entire party, then dropped a bill with a glaring discrepancy: the itemized copy and the gratuity slip differed by exactly 15% or $50. For a party size that does not qualify for automatic gratuity, this looked very much like an attempt to sneak in a 15% service charge while hoping we wouldn’t notice, and then tip on top of it. Once the check hit the table, staff disappeared entirely, as if anticipating we would not catch the “error.” I really hate to make any sort of accusation like that but there was one other table in our section and the chances of their bill being 15% more on the nose are astronomical.

For a restaurant positioning itself as upscale, this was a deeply disappointing experience. Between the rushed pacing, subpar food, sloppy service, and what appeared to be a dishonest handling of the bill, I cannot recommend this establishment.

After a super busy day, my husband and I called ahead to Via Roma on a week night to express our need for quiet, delicious meal. We were not disappointed. Given a table far from the bar in a little room, we were able to relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal. The staff is personable, efficient and attentive. Our dietary needs were honored (no salt for me), and our food was delicious. We will definitely return.

For the price and the plating, this restaurant is mediocre at best. The food is tasty, well some of it, I found my veal to be quite overcooked and the marsala to be verging on bitter and burned. The staff is exceptional. I think their prices would be warranted if they amped up their food game and put more care into preparation. Overall, I have to say I will not return to this restaurant. It is sad because it gets a lot of good hype, but very disappointing in the end.

Went here after 5 years. Just couldn’t go after pandemic. In celebration of my birthday.
The place lives up to its quality and ambience. Their service is one of the best. Staff is super friendly. Love love the food.
It was so noisy, that going with my toddler was just fine (was nervous if it’s gonna be super quite)… they are open only for dinner, reservations are highly recommended..

Service here was great. Several people helped wait on our table so we were never without a full drink and food. The ambience inside is nice and intimate feeling.

The food was all really good. We tried the seafood special, ravioli, chicken dish, carbonara and scallops. Everyone at our table enjoyed the meal.

We had an amazing time at Via Roma! The lamb shank was ridiculous, risotto and scallops were perfectly cooked, the pasta is all homemade. Our server was fantastic, the restaurant was jam packed but she checked on us multiple times and had a great personality. It was our anniversary and they made us feel special

We enjoyed this small, intimate restaurant and highly recommend it to others! The star dishes of the night were the Pasta del Giorno and the Osso Buco followed closely by both appetizers we ordered and the panna cotta for dessert.

Roasted Octopus Appetizer – Polipo
Best octopus we ever had, cooked perfectly and very tender. Flavorful, tangy, Mediterranean-based spices.

Crab Cakes Appetizer- (Daily Special)
Well-seasoned, heavy on the crab meat and only minor filler. Surprisingly good and held-up well in comparison to a quality Maryland crab cake.

Pasta del Giorno (Daily Special)
This was a lovely, notable pasta dish. The fettuccini tasted homemade with a nice al dente texture in a light white wine and garlic sauce. The beef tips were an excellent addition as they balanced the light sauce and increased the depth of the dish without being too heavy. Further, the arugula and cherry tomatoes added a fresh, sweet summer taste to the dish without overcomplicating the dish. Overall, we loved this special and it was a highlight of the dinner.

Osso Buco
Fantastic, the veal was so tender that you could cut it with a fork. It was complemented well by the saffron risotto which was very flavorful and had a smooth, creamy texture. The sauce was a rich, tomato-based sauce that complemented the veal and risotto. They were thoughtful and included a small fork to access the bone marrow – which was delicious.

Pesce del Giorno (Daily Special)
Good pan-fried flounder that was cooked perfectly and paired with a well-seasoned spinach.

Mare
Classic seafood pasta in a marinara sauce. The clams, mussels, and lobster were tender and cooked perfectly.

Panna Cotta
This is one of my favorite traditional Italian desserts and it was well-represented here. It’s a sweet and tangy dessert that is fresh and light. The strawberry sauce was a strong, tangy complement to the sweet, custard.

Tiramisu
Good ratio of coffee to sweetness, not too bitter or too heavy on the cream.

Crème brûlée
Fantastic, hit the spot after a savory meal with a good balance of caramelized sugar to custard.
