Vero Amore (meaning “true love” in Italian) was certified as Authentic Neapolitan Pizzeria #250 by Italy’s world-renowned Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana Academy (VPN), which requires strict traditional Neapolitan pizza making standards. While being a certified Neapolitan pizzeria means a whole lot of diligent care – handmade mozzarella; imported ovens, tomatoes, and flour; training in Italy; careful measurements of pizza thickness; the requirement of particular pizza topping options – it is meticulous preparation that makes Vero Amore pizzas, and dishes in general, unique and absolutely delicious.

First my wife and I were seated at a sticky table. Then we were served water in plastic glasses–waitress said “We are out of glasses.” (It was 6:40 PM.) Ordered a caesar salad and thin crust pizza. Pizza came first…Was room temperature and crust was chewy and soggy–literally, a half-baked pizza. 20 minutes passed, no salad. We asked our waitress why. She said they had no caesar dressing and had to “make some.” Dessert ordered was panna cotta which on previous experiences was excellent–creamy, fluffy, light, almost evanescent. This one was rubbery, grainy, too thick, dense and syrupy. It didn’t get off the ground! Our waitress was way overloaded. She passed our table multiple times empty-handed and never even looked at us or asked us “How is everything?” Terrible dinner. Who the heck is running this place? Was it really an “off-night”?
The food was great and the drinks were absolutely top-notch. We had an incredible time exploring their craft cocktail menu, which features inventive drinks like the yellow bikini. If you want a unique experience where you can truly escape the hustle and bustle, this is the spot. ✨ #TheStillTucson #Speakeasy #DateNight”
This time was the complete opposite. We waited about 10 minutes before anyone even got a waiter and after that our waiter basically disappeared. I had to keep asking other staff members just to get refills because we weren’t being checked on at all.
My wife’s order never came out, and I didn’t even get a chance to tell our waiter because we didn’t see him again. After waiting another 10 minutes with no sign of him, I had to ask someone else for the check just so we could leave. Only after that did our waiter finally come back, acting like everything was normal, with no apology and no acknowledgment that my wife never received her plate.
The food was okay, but the service was terrible. Everyone we ran into, their demeanor made us feel like the most unimportant people in the building. I came back expecting the same experience we had last time, and it was a huge letdown. I really hope something changes by the next visit.
