Saw this place on social media and we’re convinced to drag us out of bed and trek 2 hours just to get a taste! Well worth it! The cinnamon rolls lived up to the hype…as big as a salad plate and nearly 4″ tall! We split one between three of us! The rest of the food was served up hot and cooked to perfection. And while you’re at it, don’t just get cup of coffee…check out the list of specialty lattes – including the candy apple latte! It was subtle and not overpowering… quitw the tasty pick-me-up. Staff is super friendly and made everyone feel at home! If you’re looking for an out of the way, downtime, friendly place to grab a bite, check out Vern’s. You won’t be disappointed!

Came here with my Dad today, went out of our way to come back here after many years. I ordered a bowl of their soup of the day, tomato bisque ($5), ordered a 4-pack of their giant cinnamon rolls to-go ($16), ordered a grilled cheese and fries ($10.50), and a lemonade ($3.50). I also ordered a brownie and giant chocolate chip cookie at the end ($8.03) – can’t go wrong here.

It’s an excellent value for excellent quality food and dessert. You can’t go wrong with Vern’s Place, plenty of parking around the building, comfortable padded seats and booths, great scenery, quiet atmosphere. The grilled cheese was a little basic, but with the soup, it worked out. The atmosphere is very consistent, looks roughly the same as it did 15 years ago.

Vern’s Place is a fantastic place to go for a rustic breakfast. When you walk in you feel like you’re in a Western movie.

The place is very open with plenty of tables, wheelchair accessible and the staff were very friendly an attentive. The service was quick. We received our food and drinks in a surprisingly short amount of time.

The food was delicious, flavorful, visually appealing, and scrumptious. Definitely try their cinnamon rolls. They are huge, sugary, and delicious. Bring your appetite as the portions were huge. We had leftovers to take home.

I highly recommend that you try Vern’s Place for breakfast and lunch. It checks off all the boxes for service, food quality, friendly staff, and it’s Western atmosphere. The prices are quite reasonable and the portions are large. There is plenty of parking out front.

My guess is it’s so popular that you will want to get there early on the weekends.

As winter loosens its grip on Fort Collins, days like today feel like a gift. With the sun shining and temperatures hovering in the high 50s, my wife and I couldn’t resist the urge to get outside. We hopped on our bikes and headed up the Poudre Trail toward the Foothills, knowing exactly where we’d stop for breakfast–Vern’s Place.

The ride itself is something special. Just six miles and about 30 minutes from the heart of Old Town, the trail winds alongside the river, offering peaceful views and the relaxing sound of flowing water. Once you pass Shields Street, the landscape opens up to breathtaking views of the Foothills, a stunning backdrop that stays with you all the way to Vern’s.

Vern’s is one of those places where you come for the food, but you stay for the atmosphere and the views. As soon as we arrived, we asked to sit on the patio, and we were seated right away. From there, the view of the Foothills was nothing short of spectacular–a perfect setting to enjoy the kind of warm, hearty meal that Vern’s is known for.

This morning, I went with the Deluxe Biscuits and Gravy, a plate piled high with two eggs, a choice of breakfast meat (I opted for the sausage patty), and biscuits smothered in rich, homemade gravy. If I said it tasted just like my grandma used to make, I’d be lying–because honestly, I don’t think even grandma’s biscuits and gravy were this good. My wife ordered the Chicken Club, and from the first bite, she was just as happy with her choice as I was with mine. The food was cooked perfectly, served hot and fresh, and the everything was spot on. Our server, Cameron, was friendly and attentive, adding to an already great experience.

For those who don’t know, Vern’s Place has deep roots in the community. Currently owned since 2023 by Alan and Jackie Jantzen–the same folks behind the beloved Silver Grill Cafe in Old Town–Vern’s has held onto its small-town charm while delivering consistently great food and service. As with The Silver Grill Cafe, Alan and Jackie have honored Vern’s history while making sure every plate that comes out of the kitchen is something to remember.

Of course, you don’t need to bike to Vern’s to enjoy it. Whether you’re making a special trip, stopping by on your way up the Poudre Canyon, or just craving a comforting, homestyle meal, this place is well worth the visit. With great service, delicious food, and a view that reminds you why we love living in Colorado, Vern’s Place is a true gem.

Food is good. I had the Salmon Benedictand it was very good. The salmon was cooked almost perfect. It was moist and mild flavored. Service is also good. It is always clean. We sat outside and it was very nice. A little loud but we were able to have a conversation. Great setting. Keep up the good work.
We stopped for lunch but had breakfast. They serve it all day. The chicken fried steak and eggs are very good. The biscuits and gravy could have better biscuits. Of course we took 2 cinnamon rolls home.

Really not sure what happened to this place. Used to come here 7 or 8 years ago and it was pretty good. Food was about the same quality as a well run chain diner such as Village Inn or an Egg and I. But came in a little while back and its like a completely different place. The food and service aren’t even as good as a Denny’s now and you get the feeling of being rushed for the next group. Just not worth it anymore

Vern’s Place is a very quaint and peaceful place to eat some delicious homemade food. Everything tastes like it’s right from mom’s kitchen. Best burger I’ve had in a very long time. Large beef patties, green leaf lettuce, and REAL pickles! Big ones! The fries and onion rings are spot on. The ranch dressing was a little thin, but still tasty. The waitresses are very sweet and genuine. It was the perfect place to take in the view after a drive in the mountains.

The food is amazing, the prices are reasonable, and the service is first rate. Family fried chicken dinner can’t be beat. Greatfried chicken, great biscuits, but the star of the show was the mashed potatoes and gravy…best I’ve had. This is a gem outside Fort Collins. Worth a drive and then explore the foothills back toward Loveland.
