Stopped in at Vernon’s Kuntry Bar-B-Que to pick up something for dinner. When I got there the two ladies behind the counter were closing out their shift and asked me to wait. Pretty interesting place…a lot of memorabilia on the walls and the smell of BBQ was thick in the air. I finally got the ladies to recognize I was STILL there and waiting to order. Opted for the meat + two sides and selected the half-chicken with pinto beans and Mac & Cheese plus added a quarter pound of brisket. When I got home anticipation turned to disappointment when I sampled the meal. The best part of the meal was the Mac & Cheese, otherwise all I can say is thank goodness for BBQ sauce. The issues…smoked chicken was dry, the pinto beans just didn’t taste good, and the brisket had zero flavor. So bottom line…I wasn’t impressed and while it resembled “food” and was filling, it sure wasn’t satisfying.

On a busy day, Vernon’s is our go-to. It is also a favorite for family lunch gatherings. The food is always great and the atmosphere is small-town-country. However, there are a few things that stand above the rest.
The Tuesday special meatloaf with black eyed peas is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! They’re hiding someone’s grandma back in the kitchen for the black eyed peas to be that good!
The ribs fall off the bone and have great flavor without being overly smoky.
And last but not least, the half chicken is fantastic with green beans and a baked potato!!!

I have been coming here often for the past few years and have always been satisfied. The baked potato is my favorite out of all the other restaurants. We stopped by this barbecue spot before our football game, and it did not disappoint! The place is very clean, and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious.
I also loved that they have a cute little playground for the kids, which made the whole experience even better for our family. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to!

This is our go-to place for burgers (which are better than most burger specialty places) plus occasional BBQ. Our favorite BBQ meats there are the turkey, sausage and sliced brisket. Sides we’ve found to be especially good are the tots, fries, mac&cheese or a half order of mushrooms. The ladies working there take good care of us.
