Didn’t make it to the bakery before they closed but they had a kiosk for Merlefest attendees. Y’all – this cake was WONDERFUL. I am very very picky, and this cake was great. Not too sweet and a good amount of flavor (I got chocolate cake with vanilla frosting). Cake was the right texture. My husband and father liked it too. Highly recommend!

This was my first time ordering a custom cake from Vernon’s and I was impressed with the flavor. I did not expect the cake to be so delicious. This was by far the best strawberry cake I have ever eaten. There are real strawberries in the icing and the cake itself was rich, and moist with light frosting; I would say it was ‘perfect.’

Did a wedding cake / cupcake tower for us. Absolutely delicious and looked as good as it taste. Vernon is an extremely professional and friendly baker. I recently did a surprise 50th Anniversary celebration for my wife and ordered cupcakes, sheet cake, and layer cake from Vernon. All were beautifully done and absolutely delicious (white cake with butter cream) ! Vernon even put gold highlights on all three. Our guests raved about the cakes and asked who prepared them !

On August 14th I picked up a strawberry cake that Vernon had made for my grandson’s 14th birthday. The party was supposed to be held at a campground on the Saturday after the cake was picked up. Vernon told me that since we were not eating it until Saturday that I may want to freeze it which I did. In the time from Wednesday until Saturday two members of our family became very sick so the party was postponed until August 24th That weekend another family member came down with Covid and the party had to be postponed for the second time. The cake is still in the freezer at this point. Due to conflicts in scheduling with family members the party was rescheduled for Sunday, October 6th. In the meantime the hurricane hit knocking out power at our home for almost three days. Thank goodness for generators. We were able to keep that cake frozen through the storm. We finally had the party on Sunday October 6th and when I cut that cake it was as fresh and moist as it had been the day I picked it up on August 24th. The take away from this story is Vernon’s cakes can be frozen for two months and they will taste as fresh as the day you brought them out of his bakery.

We ordered a cheesecake with a chocolate ganache topping for a birthday party. It was amazing! Vernons other treats are also amazing! I’ve had a apple spice cake, cookies and cupcakes. All were delicious! It’s such a tucked away little business but it’s worth it to find it and treat yo self as often as you can! Thanks Vernon!!

Im from Boston and one section of the city is called The North End. Thats where bakeries make recipes handed down for generations from “the motherland”. It boasts some of the best pastries you will ever have. Vernon’s has the best coconut cream pie I have had since i came from boston! Ive traveled all over the country, and the world, and his bakery is in my top 5. So glad hes in Wilkesboro! Plus, hes a really nice guy. 1,000% recommend! Oh, his homemade breads are fantastic too!
