Texas history – must do. The only underground pit in Texas barbecue.
They were sold out of lamb by the time we arrived. Barbacoa and carnitas were good. Corn tortillas were delicious.
However, I had to wipe down my own table.
Staff is beyond super friendly.

I had heard great things about this place over the years, so I finally decided to give it a try. I brought a group of 12 hungry veterans for lunch, after a 5 mile hike. The service was amazing and all the food was delicious. I was really amazed with the prices. I was able to feed that many people for under $200.00! We were all ready to eat after a long morning of hiking, so not a single person though to take a picture or two of our food. However, all the pictures in the other reviews do not do this place justice. I can say, I have found another local gem for our monthly meetings.

This is a simple yet amazing taco shop. Get there early as they sell out quickly. We made it in on a Saturday morning as the rush was beginning to form and quickly had our barbacoa and tortillas ready to eat. Red chili sauce was the perfect level of spicy and gave the whole meal that perfect kick. Some of the best barbacoa I have ever enjoyed!

This restaurant though small is very quaint. It has a welcoming atmosphere which invites return visits. Have had barbacoa and carnitas and everytime, as scrumptious as the last. The service is extraordinary, they greet you as soon as you walk in, little to no wait, food is hot and full of flavor. The owner is present, making sure everything is running smoothly and customers are well-taken care of. Thank you for making our experience an absolutely wonderful one each time we stop by. KUDOS to you sir and to your magnificient staff!

Tasty barbacoa and menudo with all the fixings. Pay per item. So be sure not to forget your salsas and tortillas. Excellent service with momma giving me a complimentary sampler bowl of carnitas.

Ive tasted better barbacoa this was alright a bit dry. Doesn’t come with salsa you have to buy it apart wich is weird because anywhere else the salsa goes with any food. Also have to buy the tortillas apart. Wouldn’t come back here again also the one that attended me had a bit of attitude.

This place truly has the best barbacoa I’ve ever had thus far. Another great brunch idea Fri Sat sun only. Close at 2. Try the pound of cachete. The flour tortillas, and either a coke or big red should go perfectly with it. Also, the owners gave us a free sample of carnitas! The way he made them, with lime, tastes amazing!!! Definitely returning.

Vera’s has some of the best barbacoa in the RGV. It’s surprising that not many people know of this place. The barbacoa is made in el poso (hole)which helps the flavor concentrate. They offer menudo, carnitas, brisket and of course barbacoa. Best place to take the family to in the weekend!

I was craving brisket for lunch and decided to search for the best spot nearby. I came here and placed an order, but honestly, I was a bit disappointed. The brisket came out chewy and had a heavy hand on the pepper—definitely more peppery than I expected. I think next time, I’ll stick with the barbacoa instead.
