Social Profile:

The Veranda Restaurant fine dining restaurant has been serving Bar Harbor since 1998. Back then, we began serving prix fixe dinner in our breakfast room. Although popular, we wanted to offer a service to complement the hotel. The Veranda Bar now offers innovative cocktails and food with an unprecedented view of Frenchman’s Bay. The AAA Four Diamond restaurant has also been recognized by Wine Spectator. We present a seasonal cocktail menu with only fresh made mixers, syrups, and infusions. Product local to New England is the main inspiration in the kitchen. Our menu changes weekly depending on the ingredients local farmers have to offer. Check out our “partners” page for more information on the farms we source from.

A couple days ago, we had the privilege to experience one of the most exquisite dinners we’ve ever had — prepared with artistry, passion, and heart by Chef Aron at Balance Rock Inn, Bar Harbor.

Each course was a masterpiece — from the delicate panna cotta with basil and goat cheese, to the halibut with chamomile and lemongrass, and the unforgettable sutlijaš brulée, inspired by the Balkans.

Thank you, Aron, for inviting us into your kitchen, for your kindness, and for sharing the story behind each dish.

This evening will remain in our memory as a true celebration of taste, culture, and friendship.

With sincere gratitude

Beautiful surroundings! The food was very good. We had scallops and fish entrees. They both were great. The butternut squash fritters and octopus to start were good. Nice wine selection.

The Veranda restaurant located at Balance Rock Inn in Bar Harbor is fine dining at its absolute best. My wife and I enjoyed the best meal of our lives at the Veranda for our anniversary dinner and the Veranda exceeded our every expectation! We received a custom menu noting our anniversary, outstanding service from our server Jeremy and of course cuisine that was not only artfully presented but achieved flavors that can not be described with words. An immaculate experience for the pallet! Treat yourself for any reason and dine with the Veranda restaurant at Balance Rock Inn and experience what fine dinning was meant to be.

Had our anniversary dinner here while on vacation in Bar Harbor.
The restaurant seating is out on the enclosed veranda of the inn with nice views of the water. Our booking was at 6:15pm which made for a very lovely evening and sunset lighting.
Food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared.
The anniversary date on our menu was a very nice touch- we kept a copy as a memento.

The Veranda is a great restaurant to go for a celebration. We celebrated our anniversary here, and that seemed to be a theme in the dining room – the couples to our left and right were also there for their anniversary! The restaurant provided a cute custom designed menu with our name on it to enhance our celebratory experience. The restaurant itself has very cool decor and actually feels more like a lounge in New Orleans rather than a hotel in Bar Harbor. We had the bread plate and ramen to start – you can skip the bread plate, but I recommend the ramen. And for our mains we had the scallops and wagyu bavette; they gave a generous amount of scallops, which is always a nice surprise, and the steak was cooked perfectly. The food was very rich, so we had no room for dessert. This is a very unique dining experience for the area, so I don’t recommend it if you’re looking for a quaint, costal meal. But if you’re looking to treat yourself for a special evening, then it’s worth it.

We came here based on reviews and recommendations and unfortunately we left really disappointed. We ordered 2 apps and 3 entrees for 2 people, and the quantity was great but unfortunately the food itself was not. We had the crudo and pate to start, both were awesome. We then ordered the wagyu, hen, and trout. The wagyu was cooked perfectly, but the entire dish was covered in this Smokey cream sauce and then the entire plate was covered in ash. It totally overpowered the dish and ruined the taste for us because it was unavoidable. The trout was ok but lacked a lot of flavor – definitely not a must order for anyone. The hen was pretty good although the breast was dry, the bread pudding served on the side of the hen was the best thing on our table. It seems their menu changes every summer so maybe this menu is just new and they are still working out the kinks but you would think ordering the fish, steak, and chicken would be a safe call to get some of the best dishes. Ambiance was beautiful (although very quiet dining area), and we had a great time regardless of the food but wanted to put a review in since I hadn’t seen any other reviews as of the 2024 season.

Beautiful restaurant, and views. The service and food were good. A little more expensive than it should have been. They had a nice touch by personalizing your menu with your name and event. Would recommend.

The best dining experience in Bar Harbor!
The food was really amazing.

We had the quail and the oxtail as appetizers that were accompanied by tasty bread and butter. For the main dish we ordered the scallops. Absolutely delicious!

We also shared the chocolate cake with the cardamom ice cream.

Eric served us and did a wonderful job with food and trip suggestions ☺️

Absolutely delicious meal! We made a reservation for our Anniversary dinner while we were on our trip to Acadia. I loved the dark, elegant atmosphere of the place. Compared to much of the other restaurants in the area, it didn’t feel crowded at all. Our server was super helpful, but also gave us lots of space to enjoy our meal. The food was all absolutely delicious. The beef yakitori was so flavorful! The chicory salad was good, but the bacon dressing was a bit overwhelmingly sweet for me, still tasted good, just not my personal preference. The sage dumplings with rabbit confit was amazing, the rabbit was so tender. The scallops were cooked to perfection and my husband loved the trout. Although I think for both of us our favorite part of the meal was the bread. It was so puffy and sprinkled with salt and herbs on top. My dinner could have been made up of just that bread and I would have been happy. I highly recommend dinning here while in Bar Harbor!

Beware: none of the waiters wear a mask. I’m not sure if they are vaccinated. From one staff’s conversation with a nearby table, it seemed like some were not and refused to. As of this post, Maine has a law that requires people to wear mask indoors in public places, and it makes me uncomfortable that the restaurant is not following the law nor informing its patrons about its choice of not taking covid precautions.

Onto the food – the food here is really good, the best we’ve had in bar harbour. The quail was outstanding, and the seafood was well prepared. The bread was a disappointment- doughy and dense, and everything was on the pricier side.
