Venice Tavern is one of Baltimore’s classic dive bars — a laid-back, neighborhood staple that’s been around since 1933 and still draws a loyal crowd of locals and visitors looking for cheap beer, good conversation, and a relaxed atmosphere.
The vibe here is authentic and unpretentious: it’s a basement-style bar with a bit of history, boxing memorabilia on the walls, a jukebox, and a pool table. Drinks are a highlight — they rotate craft beers on tap (often around $3 a pint) — and the bartenders are usually friendly and ready to chat. You won’t find a fancy menu here (there’s no full kitchen), but you’re welcome to bring your own food from nearby spots if you want to snack while you drink.
It’s definitely a dive bar experience through and through — cozy, a little rough around the edges, and full of character. On busy nights it can feel lively and social, and it’s a great place to hang with friends, play a few games of pool, or meet folks from the neighborhood.
Overall: I’d describe Venice Tavern as a welcoming, old-school bar with affordable drinks, a real community feel, and a timeless Baltimore vibe — perfect for anyone who loves a classic dive bar with character.

Fun dive bar that accepts cash only and has a pool table! You can have a good time with only $20 as the Natty Bos continue to be the cheapest around! Found this during my prior economic struggles and appreciated being able to hangout and not go broker than I was.
This is also the most diverse bar I’ve visited – authentic folks just looking to enjoy a beer, nothing fancy, no politics, just people meeting people.
Please don’t change.

Great dive bar! Had cheap beer, took control of the jukebox and danced with my friends. The setting was very welcoming to us creating our own atmosphere and having a great time. Plus it’s right next to Frank Zappa way so you can go pay tribute to the man on the way in or on the way out.

4.5 stars. Dive bar perfect. Cozy and warm inside. Lots of boxing history, juke box and pool table, cool people and no rifraf. Small inside but the easier way to meet others. The barmaid Jaclyn kept the drink orders coming in a timely manner. This is a no food / cash only bar with snacks. …and Jaclyn makes an awesome coffee for those who needed it. We will be back!

This is my first google review but Venice tavern was worth reviewing! Absolutely great drinks (the Negroni is delicious) and the food is fantastic! The vibe is so fun and uplifting to be around and the best part – Giuseppe, the skeleton in the corner, adds a wonderful sense of whimsy to an already great place!

While this kind of place would never get 5 stars in Manhattan, it gets 5 stars from me. Right off the main drag in the Highlandtown neighborhood and had 13 beers on tap for $3/pint, mostly seasonal stuff. The bartender was very friendly and willing to chat if you wanted to. Crummy pool table for 50 cents per game if you’re into that. Cash only and you can bring your own food in since they don’t have food.

This place is a dump! Very disorganized and dirty. The bartender was rude and slow. Drinks for such a dive bar were not dive bar prices. Way overpriced. Crowd resembled a dive bar and were very loud and obnoxious, cursing a lot. Don’t waste your time and money at this place.
