We did a nice autumn drive around Southwestern Massachusetts and Northwestern Connecticut. In the later afternoon/early evening on the drive home we were thinking of a place to stop for dinner while driving down Route 8. The first city I thought I was Torrington and then I remembered The Venetian restaurant. It’s been about 15 years or more since we had dinner there. I remember reading a few years ago that it changed ownership so we were curious to try it again. I had read that the new owners were still making the original owners recipes. When we arrived, it was a bit crazy(show at the Warner Theater) but when it was our turn in line, I didn’t realize we needed a reservation, but the hostess asked if we wanted to sit upstairs and we said we’re good wherever. It was a very quiet space, but it needs to be updated. It felt a little closed in. Anyway, after looking at the menu, we chose the meatball appetizer to share. We both had side salads that were included with our meals. My choice was the pasta with the Bolognese sauce and my partner had chicken Parmigiana. I’m happy to report that everything was very good. The Bolognese sauce was excellent. I took a few bites of my partners chicken Parmigiana and thought it was very good. Kelly was our server and she was very friendly and helpful. She also told us that the original owner comes in once a week and cooks. Next time we stop in, we will make sure we have a reservation. Nice to see a 100 year-old restaurant still serving delicious food!

We had an amazing dining experience at the Venetian Restaurant. We were greeted the moment we stepped inside the art deco dining room. It was as if we stepped back in time to the roaring 1920’s. Homemade bread (amazing and warm) was promptly brought to the table by our friendly server. Friday night was a frigid evening, so I started with a bowl of homemade cream of vegetable soup. It was hot and delicious. I’ve tried many soups at the Venetian and I can’t decide which one is my favorite because they’re so good. The dinner was sensational. Everyone at our table raved about their meal. Don’t pass on the desserts or fresh ground coffee. The Venetian is a tremendous value and we had so fun much. Tracy, the owner, is an absolute delight. The Venetian is our new favorite restaurant and we will be making reservations again and again!

This is a gem of a restaurant in downtown Torrington. Upon entering the restaurant, you are immediately welcomed by either the owner or staff. Once seated, your server comes right over to take your drink order and tell you their daily specials.

I have never had a bad meal there. It is a very diverse menu too. The Fettuccine Bolognese is delicious, one of my favorites. You can’t go wrong with any of the soups that they make, they are all top notch. The dessert’s and freshly ground coffee are just that, fresh, robust and wonderful.
What I love that takes it to the next level, no paper placemats here, the table is covered with 2 tablecloths. Very elegant and a fine dining experience. I very highly recommend this restaurant.

My family and friends have.been going to the Venetian for decades. It is a community landmark. I read some of the negative reviews and can’t believe how derogatory people can be. They should be embarrassed by their behavior. It is true that every restaurant surrounding our beloved Warner theatre gets crazy busy when there is a show. That is why sensible and savvy people who would like to enjoy fine dining in this authentic atmosphere before a show plan ahead and go early. The staff has always advised this when making a reservation. “Come early so there is no rush. Relax and enjoy. We know how to get you to the show on time. And you can leave your car in the lot, its a 2 minute walk”. That being said, Tracy, the new owner, had some big shoes to fill and high expectations to maintain when she took over. So many people in the community are more than impressed. The menu(and ” secret” 100 year old recipes)are perfect as ever. Holy vegetable ravioli!! The environment is as authentic and warm as ever. And the staff, well, they are seasoned professionals that know exactly how to guests happy. I am so happy to see the establishment continuing to thrive.

I’m writing to share feedback on my recent visit, which unfortunately fell well below expectations.

The experience started poorly with the host. She was noticeably unfriendly and carried an unnecessary attitude. I was subjected to an awkward back-and-forth to confirm the reservation name, made to feel as though I were being dishonest rather than a paying guest.

The food did little to recover the evening. Due to an alleged limited menu because of a show at the Warner Theater, my preferred choice wasn’t available. I reluctantly ordered the linguine with clam sauce, which was less a sauce and more a thin, watery soup—hardly what one would expect from a proper Italian dish.

Adding insult to injury, the restaurant ran out of bourbon after our first round. On a Friday night, early in the evening, this is baffling. How a restaurant fails to stock a basic staple like bourbon is beyond me. If necessity is the issue, a quick run to a package store would have been an obvious solution.

The lone bright spot of the night was our server, who was pleasant and professional throughout. Frankly, I felt sympathy for her, knowing she’d likely have to explain the bourbon shortage to every disappointed guest who followed us.

Overall, the experience was disappointing and poorly managed, save for the efforts of our server.

My husband and I went for New Year’s Eve dinner. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants to go to when Mike had it. The food was absolutely disgusting. The serving size were extremely small for example two Manicotti was $20. It was lukewarm and sour tasting. I asked for my soup to go the next day. I took it out of the bag and it was literally too tiny scoops not even half the container was full. My husband got veal and had to cut it with a knife the potatoes were again lukewarm. My husband was absolutely disgusted. I told him to go out to the car and to wait for me, it took them 20 minutes to come to the table for me to ask to get the check and they never even asked how our dinner was. The service was awful. The food was awful. It was a big big disappointment.

Meatballs were good.
The veal Parmesan was heavily coated and soggy. The “side” Caesar salad was just okay for an additional $10!!! I knew there was an up charge but was not expecting $10. I got a dirty martini but wouldn’t recommend cocktails from there. Maybe just a glass of wine.

The atmosphere is very old and cheesy. It smells like my grandmas house. They could definitely use some updating.

Will I go back? Probably not.

Change my service review because they responded so nicely. I will give them another chance.

Last night, we visited the Venetian Restaurant and our party enjoyed one of the best Italian dinners we’ve ever had.
It all began with the owner greeting us at the door and truly welcoming us to her restaurant. Her greeting and infectious smile made each of us feel welcomed.
She proceeded to talk to us like we were old friends and made us feel like we were her special guests.
I’m not very good at describing the details of each course, but here’s a quick run down.
Usually when salads come with the meal, I can expect a couple of iceberg lettuce leafs, some carrot shavings and a cheap oil and vinegar mix. Not here. I was given a dinner size salad with mixed greens and veggies and a homemade balsamic dressing with crumbled bleu cheese. About three tablespoons of bleu cheese -delicious!
My entree was one of the specials. Cavatappi pasta with a selection of imported mushrooms, sweet Italian sausage and bits of cauliflower all mixed in a delicious sauce of what seemed to be onions, garlic and olive oil, and probably some other special ingredients. Not heavy on anything except flavor. The owner would stop by just to say hello, see how we were enjoying our meals and tell stories about the restaurant and bring more bread. Bread! You gotta try this bread, fresh baked, warm and amazing!

Deserts were crazy good. I’ll let you see when you visit.

All in all, we can’t wait to go back. The owner also told us about their pre-fixe weekday meals, $35 gets you a three course complete meal!

You gotta try this place!

I’ve been here many times for dinner and events and never had a bad meal.
It is located in the heart of Torrington and walking distance to other bars and restaurants.
The new owners have definitely honored the traditional Italian food that has kept this a local landmark.
Staff friendly, plenty of parking.

Went here 11/15 and it was horrific. We walked in and saw 4 other parties that were waiting to talk to a host. Everyone had a reservation but said not a single waiter or host has greeted them, let alone try to seat them for over 10 minutes. It wasn’t until I walked up to a waiter after 20 minutes of waiting that a hostess finally appeared.

We ordered food and told our waiter we have a show to watch after since we were seated late and they promised up and down that the food will be out way before then.

The food never came. The side salad our entrees came with had the incorrect dressing and we didn’t get a single refill of water.

We told the manager with the black glasses that we can’t wait any longer for the food since it been over an hour. She initially tried to blame us for being late when it was them who seated us late? Then said that she can’t make the cook cook faster. She was happy to report that she took off the food of our bill before we paid for our drinks. I would sure hope so since we never received it ???

Even though we never got our food, this place is so poorly run that I would never trust how they prepare their food. Avoid this place at all cost.
