Stopped by for dinner after a hike, first time here and we were very pleased as a group.
Nice atmosphere, alcohol, dessert and a wide variety of tacos and bowls.

Food is flavorful and the potions size is generous, we all over ordered thinking it’d be smaller sizes and ended up stuffed or couldn’t finish. I’d come back again!

On a recent visit to Scottsdale, I finally had the chance to check out Velvet Taco, a spot I’d heard so much about. The restaurant is part of a Dallas-based chain that’s well-known for its creative, globally-inspired tacos, and its first Arizona location opened in late 2024. From the moment I stepped inside, the lively, fast-casual vibe was welcoming and fun. The menu options were absolutely fantastic, a testament to their mission of exploring international flavors and serving them up in a tortilla.
As a first-timer, the combo meal is the way to go, allowing you to sample two different tacos and a side. And trust me, these tacos are not your average street size! They are quite large and packed with flavor, so two are more than enough to fill you up. While the price is a little high for a counter-ordering restaurant, the unique ingredients and generous portions definitely make it feel worthwhile.
I was intrigued by the upstairs seating area, and the unique, modern decor and funky murals were really cool. Unfortunately, the tables were a bit sticky, and there was a strong cleaning smell in the air. We ultimately decided to grab one of the tables outside, which turned out to be a great choice for enjoying the beautiful Scottsdale weather.
Ultimately, Velvet Taco was a very positive first-time experience. The food was inventive, delicious, and filling. Despite the minor issue with the upstairs dining area, the friendly atmosphere and delicious tacos made it a memorable meal. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to try another unique creation!

I recently stopped by Velvet Taco and tried their Chicken Tikka Bowl and Fried Paneer Taco. Overall, it was a decent meal that hit the spot, though nothing particularly memorable.
The Spicy Chicken Tikka Bowl was colorful and generously portioned. The chicken had a nice tikka spice blend, and I appreciated the variety of toppings including what looked like cucumber, cabbage slaw, and rice. The flavors were there, though the spice level could have been kicked up a notch for my taste. Everything was fresh!
The Fried Paneer Taco was interesting. The paneer had a good crispy exterior, and I could see some sauce and garnishes that added visual appeal. The texture contrast worked well, though I found the overall flavor profile to be a bit safe. It needed either a bolder sauce or more seasoning to really make it stand out.
The presentation was casual and appropriate for a taco spot, served on parchment paper with a laid-back vibe. Portion sizes were fair for the price point.

****Edit*** Nov 1st 2025 just a reminder to Velvet Taco who responded to my review; I did indeed sent you an email through your corporate website and have yet to hear back.

This place is such a cool building where you can sit downstairs or upstairs and people watch the old Scottsdale area while you eat but the food is not good. We ordered the birria tacos and the chimichurri steak, these were both truly uneatable. The corn tortilla felt like biting into a dry tortilla toy made out of playdough, the cheese inside the taco was chewy and rubbery, the meat was too salt and the consome tasted like someone just threw a package of cheap ramen seasoning into a cup of hot water. The staff was very friendly and we liked the establishment but we really dont understand how they are making business with that food.

Velvet usually one of my favorite places in Texas. Today in Arizona everything was crazy spicy, and I asked for corn tortillas but got wheat tortillas. Salmon tacos are not fun when you sweat from them.

Stopped in to grab lunch. It’s definitely not your traditional Mexican taco spot. I tried the Bacon Smash Burger, Chimichirri Steak, Grilled Steak, Korean Fried Rice, and Grilled Salmon Tacos. All five tacos were delicious, full of flavor, and packed with fresh ingredients. I’ll definitely be back to try some of the other items in the menu.

Wow. I’m a big fan of the insane mix of flavors these guys pack into their tortillas. Indian spices?
Nashville BBQ? Check and check.
We got the chicken tikka taco and the Nashville Tofu taco along with the more mainstream salmon taco. Fave was the salmon, but so cool to have those other options.
This is a counter service setup, pretty much a fast food model, and the atmosphere reflects that — pretty generic layout, but the upper level seating area gives you a nice view over Scottsdale.

I had high expectations but this place was a joke. Excellent environment but the food was not worth it. There was no one there should have been my first warning. Food came out warm, not hot and mostly flavorless. Birria tacos had an embarrassing amount of meat it was just mostly cheap cheese. Save yourself go elsewhere.

Wow, I could not say better things about this place. I think the quality of the food is incredible. Seemed like everything I ate was fresh and made to perfection. I could not recommend the slow roasted beef and the blackened salmon enough! The guacamole is a must try as well! For the quality and quantity of food I feel like the price, especially for their meal (2 tacos, a drink and a side) for $14 is great! If you are in the area this is a must try. I will definitely be coming out again.

Nice place! The tacos were huge, I got the combo with guac and blue corn chips and a drink. Well worth it. The tacos packed good flavors, definitely recommend! Service was lovely.
