I had the Korean Fried Rice, Mexi-Cali shrimp, and Grilled Steak tacos. The ingredients used were fresh and fillings were plenty. Despite Mexi-Cali shrimp was a fan favorite, it was my least favorite as there wasn’t much flavor to it. They only have soft shell tacos. Sorry friends who prefer crispy tacos.
Parking lot is huge, so finding a parking spot will not be a problem. There are indoor and outdoor seatings. There is a mobile order pick up counter outside.
Just left Memorial City and wanted to grab a bite to eat. A friend of mine had been recommending Velvet Taco and found out there was one nearby. They have a good selection of tacos, bowls, and even vegetarian/vegan options. I had the pleasure of meeting Jay and DJ who was more than happy to give me some recommendations. I decided to go with the “Say What” combo which includes 2 tacos, a side and drink. Went with the Spicy Chicken Tikka, Chimichurri Steak, elote for the side, and the sangrita swirl for a $6 up charge. Saw a ton of reviews praising the red velvet cake, so I got the too. Everything was SO GOOD! The steak was flavorful and tender. I didn’t feel like my jaw was going to lock up from chewing. I personally didn’t think the Tikka chicken was spicy (I know tolerance varies from person to person). Thought it was the perfect amount of heat without being overbearing. The Indian flavors were definitely there! The elote was one of the best I’ve had from a restaurant. Red velvet cake wasn’t dry or overly sweet. Comes with a side of caramel to drizzle over top but you honestly may not need it. The sangria swirl is a mix of their sangria and kick ass margarita. If you’re looking for something that doesn’t taste strong BUT may sneak up on you…this is the drink to get! Overall, I had a great experience at Velvet Taco and would 10/10 recommend. One more place to mark off my list.
On my first visit, I ordered the rotisserie chicken bowl. It was well-seasoned and tasted fresh. I was hoping for a slightly larger portion—especially more chicken—but it was still filling and felt like a lighter meal option. By the time I finished, I was satisfied and not hungry.
On my next two visits, I ordered the buffalo tacos. The first time, they came with carrots, which I’m not a big fan of, but the tacos still tasted very good overall. The second time, I ordered the same buffalo tacos without carrots and added extra blue cheese, which made the flavor even better.
Customer service stood out during all my visits. The staff was welcoming, answered my questions about the menu, and made the ordering process easy. There is indoor and outdoor seating but I got my food to go.
The price point is a little higher than some taco spots, but the food quality seems better, which helps justify the cost.
I plan to go back again to try more items on the menu.
The tacos are great and the staff are awesome.
I especially like the buffalo chicken and Mexicali shrimp tacos and their queso blanco. A bunch of their weekly tacos are great as well and their margs are always a treat.
The one time they made an error on our takeout order they promptly made it right.
Definitely worth stopping by.
But if I had to choose, the meat tacos stole the show for me. I wasn’t born in Texas, but Texas has always been in my soul, and there’s just something about tender brisket and juicy steak in a taco that feels like home.
That said, the fish tacos were out-of-this-world good — especially for seafood lovers. If you like things spicy (like I do), just ask the team to turn up the heat a bit — they’ll hook you up, and you won’t be able to stop eating.
Oh, and let’s not forget: the cocktails here are top-notch. Whether you’re out with friends, having a casual lunch with someone special, or grabbing a spread for a house party — Velvet Taco is 100% the move.
Awesome spot, great vibe, incredible flavors. I’ll definitely be back.
Velvet Taco never disappoints! The tacos are unique, full of flavor, and always fresh. The atmosphere is fun and casual, and the staff is super friendly. Perfect spot for a quick bite or late-night craving. Highly recommend if you love creative twists on classic tacos!
