Our waitress, Ashley, was outstanding, friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. I ordered the steak, and it was absolutely phenomenal perfectly cooked, flavorful, and clearly high quality.
Amazing food, great service, and wonderful staff. I highly recommend Velvet Buffalo and will definitely be back.
Velvet Buffalo has had a bit of a touch up! New chairs gave the entire place a new vibe, the servers were in new uniforms, and, like I said, there was a new menu. It seemed parsed down from the previous one but it wasnt a bad thing.
One thing I was surprised about was that the kid’s menu they had before was completely gone. It was simple before (spaghetti, tenders and tots, or buttered noodles, dessert choice and a little appetizer choice). I was surprised at the completely lack of options for our young kid but our server, Karen (who is always amazing), helped us out on this end.
We went with the new cheese board and fried calamari. Both were delicious. I will admit I felt like the price on the board was high for what we received BUT I understand that the prices on the choice cheeses could have driven that. Either way, we finished off both.
Entrée wise we went with the braised short rib and the prosciutto wrapped pork chop. Again, both were delicious. The pork chop was slightly too dry for my taste but, again, I understand the need to make sure the item was cooked for the average person (we didnt ask about temps beforehand, so that’s on us).
For two adults and a child, our total came out more towards 150$-ish. This included 2 beers and their Pineapple Old Fashioned (which was delicious, kudos to the bartender).
It was a very nice meal and the staff was outstanding. The kitchen staff has outdone themselves.
Thanks for a memorable dining experience.
Service: We ate at the bar. Bless this girls heart she was nice, but had no business tending bar. No water, took 20 minutes to get an order in, and didn’t know the term “neat”. Asked for whiskey list, and just said “well this is all the whiskey we have” and pointed at the shelf. Right, I can see that. No recommendations? No discovery questions to see if you can point me in a direction? Pretty wild.
Drinks: An $18 bottle of wine is $21 for an 8oz pour and a 2oz pour of Michters Sour Mash was $18. Highway robbery.
The Food: A little piece of salmon on some room temp mushroom risotto was $35. An “Italian chopped salad” was iceberg lettuce with a few cherry tomatoes, salami, moz balls, and olive chunks was swimming in Italian dressing. With so much pepper it cleared my sinuses. That was $16. Even the bread they bring out which we used to love, was 2 small pieces and a shot of olive oil with a little cracked pepper.
What happened here Velvet? I paid over $100 for that “experience” that I could’ve made at home for $30 in ingredients. Zero effort in service, zero presentation value, nothing.
I expect to pay good money for good food, but this is Beloit WI. If I were downtown SF and got shitty service/ food for $100, I expect it, but not in the middle of nowhere Beloit, WI. If it wasn’t for Hendricks bankrolling this operation I can’t imagine they’d be in business for long.
If you read this far do yourself a favor. Take your $100 and walk a couple blocks down the street to the 615 Club. You’ll get a killer meal great drinks and great service for the same or less.Hell, I’d eat at Chilis before I came back here. At least I know I’d pay half the price for the same value of food.
