We are here almost 3 years ago. Sooo many Mexican restaurants to choose from everywhere. This was a dive in the best way. So friendly. Best service. Great food great drinks. That being said, we couldn’t remember the name and spent three years trying to find it again and finally did today!! And as amazing as always. Local friendly and 5 star service!!!

Old fashioned bar/restaurant with no taps; the decor is straight from the 90s and should stay that way. Ordered a taco dinner, al pastor, Mexican style, with everything but guac, one of the best I’ve ever had. Aide was sweet, courteous, and her service came with a smile. I went in early because I work nights, so I can’t comment on the rest of the day, but this was one nice place at lunchtime! Get yourself in!

Small bar and restaurant with food. The Caldo de Res was fantastic. The beef was tender and juicy. The owners are very nice and accommodating. The parking can be challenging. Large portions. Reasonable prices.

Friendly atmosphere and good food , fast service. we asked for gluten free food and they knew what it was! When I visit Joliet to meet with my good friend, we always stop at Vela’s for lunch. Is it the good food? Yes! Is it the friendly, but professional service? Yes! Is it the kind of place where you can just relax,spend time and not feel rushed with friends or family in the warmth of an enjoyable restaurant? Absolutely! The cost of lunch, also makes it a practical choice for families and friends to enjoy. You know I love it so much, that I’m going back tomorrow.

I love every experience I have coming to this restaurant. Its food, warm and friendly environment, and the kindness of the owner speak for themselves. A great spot to step into for a quick lunch or to kick back for a few hours and have a beer or two. Affordable prices and great serving sizes – favorite thing to get are the Steak and Potato tacos, traditional style, on corn tortillas with plenty of green salsa! Highly recommend eating here!
