Reviews
The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the pricing is very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. A great spot for authentic Italian food without feeling overpriced. Highly recommended.
A new favourite of ours, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!
The food was delicious.
Owners are so lovely and friendly. Beautiful views of Durham Cathedral.
We’l definitely be back.
A service charge is added to the bill by default (can be removed on request), which I don’t appreciate.
Much trouble for any of the staff who looked after us impeccably all evening. The food we had was amazing but I will definitely be back to try out the sharing dishes as they looked fabulous too! Well done everyone an all round great night out!
The good: The garlic bread and margherita pizza (which I forgot to take a pic of) were great! The desserts were also solid. Despite being understaffed, the staff members present were very polite and respectful. The atmosphere was very nice as well.
The disappointments: The cocktail (Italian Prosecco Mojito) is a huge disappointment. The bartender doesn’t seem to be present which we should’ve noticed as a red flag – the drinks also took a long time to be served which made me wonder if the manager decided to start mixing the drinks themselves by referring to recipes. The drink was served in a very mediocre appearance (pic 1 – I drank a bit before taking the pic but it looked the same when it’s served) and for £9 I expected it to be presented a bit better to be honest. The flavours are okay but nothing special.
The pastas also left a lot to be desired – the spaghetti al tonno (spaghetti with tuna and zucchini) is a bit confusing as it was served with tagliatelle instead (not a problem for us as we prefer tagliatelle anyways but still worth pointing out). It also tasted a bit dry. The tagliatelle al funghi was supposed to come with truffle but we could barely taste it – it tasted like a very ordinary mushroom cream pasta to us which didn’t feel worth it for £15.
The mixed: Although the staff were polite, service did feel quite slow and inexperienced, but I understand that it could be because the restaurant opened recently and the staff could be students. And there definitely should be more staff members.
My parents came once before during the opening week and the quality was much better that time, so we were left a bit disappointed this time. I didn’t reflect the issues directly this time as it was a birthday meal and I didn’t want to dampen the mood on the spot. Despite the issues, I do wonder if this is a one-off bad day for the restaurant as it looks like there’s potential, so I’d like to go back again to give it a second chance. Otherwise, I’d say there are many other Italian restaurants with better value for money in Durham.
