If you visit St Vincent and the Grenadines and long for the local food of the land, you must go to Veejays in downtown Kingstown, St. Vincent. When I got there, I was surprised to find how small the place was, and not surprised how many people were coming in and out . Majority of them taking carry outs, the others, dining in. The limited dining area is populated by orange and green furniture, actually very colorful, with an adjoining bar. They had run out of Pelau (a spicy staple with rice, vegetables and meat cooked in one pot). So I settled for the chicken roti. Wrapped like a burrito, with a nice half cooked dough and stuffed with more than generous amounts of chicken (bones and all). Accompaniments were a thick grainned yellow rice and a wonderful serving of black beans. There was fresh flavor, tenderness and satisfaction at every bite. Service was exceptional. Wow. Must go back for the Pelau.

Vee Jay’s Restaurant is a good spot for local food, they are well known for their rotis. Their lasagna is my personal favorite, I’ve had their burger and fries it was decent (food overall about 3/5). The real standout is the bar, their cocktails are excellent! The place can get busy around lunch but is calm in the evening. They offer indoor, rooftop, and bar seating. Service is okay, and the vibe is decent overall.

We went to Saint Vincent for carnival. When we first arrived, it was a little busy. One phone call, and the manager (pictured below) sprang into action. She took EXCELLENT care of us. We came from Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, and Jamaica and they made sure that we were able to eat. It was close to closing when we arrived. The roti was delicious, the drinks are well price, and Vee Jay’s is centrally located in the middle of all the action. We met other patrons from the UK and some that were local. It’s a great atmosphere and anyone visiting the island should pop in.

We will be back!

Delicious food and great service! Lively, even when most other business in the city centre are closed (we went for dinner on Thursday around 8pm). No prices on menus but everything is reasonable.

The atmosphere was great however it was the lunch rush hour, and it took almost an hour for my food to get to me. The food is not how I remembered it to be, but it wasn’t bad. It’s a great place to go if you’re going for drinks tho!

A Culinary Gem in Kingstown – Vee Jays

Rating: ★★★★½

During my first visit to St. Vincent and the Grenadines island’s, I had the pleasure of dining at Vee Jays, a standout eatery nestled in the vibrant heart of Kingstown. Known for its bustling atmosphere, Vee Jays is a sought-after destination for both locals and tourists alike, and my experience confirmed why it continues to be one of the busiest establishments in town.

On this occasion, I indulged in their renowned Seafood Conch Curry Roti, a dish that has quickly captured my heart. This was my second time savoring this delightful meal during my stay, and it certainly did not disappoint. The roti was perfectly cooked, skillfully spiced, and the conch was tender, making for a memorable and fulfilling culinary experience. In a region where many eateries tend to serve smaller portions, Vee Jays stands out by providing generous servings that leave you fully satisfied.

In addition to the curry roti, I also tried their fish and chips, which was equally delightful. The fish was fresh and flavorful, complemented by a light batter that added to its taste without overpowering it. To enhance my meal, I paired it with a cool and refreshing sorrel drink, which was particularly enjoyable on this hot February day in St. Vincent.

Upon entering the restaurant from the heat outside, the cool air conditioning was a delightful and mood-changing experience. It provided a refreshing escape from the warmth and elevated my dining experience.

What truly sets Vee Jays apart is the inviting atmosphere it offers. Escaping the fast-paced hustle and bustle of the markets in the center of town, I found solace in their cool, clean environment. The vibe was enhanced by the soothing sounds of 90s R&B music playing in the background, providing a nostalgic and relaxing ambiance that made my dining experience all the more enjoyable.

The staff at Vee Jays were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Their warm smiles and genuine energy added a personal touch to the meal, making me feel welcome and valued as a customer. The manager and team were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that my experience was nothing short of excellent.

Overall, Vee Jays delivers a wonderful dining experience that beautifully captures the essence of St. Vincent’s culinary offerings. With its generous portions, flavorful dishes, and a warm, inviting atmosphere, it is no surprise that it has become a frequent stop for me during my stay. I highly recommend visiting Vee Jays when in the area, as it is a place where you can enjoy delicious food and create memorable moments. I look forward to returning on my next visit!

We got about 15 Roti and all 15. They have no flavor my curry at home in the US taste better than this. The ladies behind the desk act like they didn’t understand English when they speak English here why can’t say the shrimp was great but the rest had no flavor.

Nothing better than a VeeJays roti growing up. Lately some days are better than others for the roti but it is delicious every time. The wait time to get the rotis can be long. I waited 30 minutes for my roti once. But once I got it it was so good I couldn’t even be mad.

Good food and open late, which is important if you’re not a cruise shipper. We tried several Roti and all were good and good prices.
