Food was absolutely amazing, service was a very nice slower more progressive dinner style which we enjoyed. Cocktails were amazing as well. Only complaint would be that parking was not the best. Definitely will be returning

SUMMARY: Food, good. Service this evening, really bad.

I wanted to take my wife out for a special meal, and it had been a while since we had been to Varanese, so I made a reservation for 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday evening.

Amongst other tables, our server had a table of 8 right next to us. We had to wait for her to go around the entire table before we could place our appetizer order. We were empathetic though – I even commented that she had her work cut out for her with that large table this evening. I got a vibe that she was pretty green.

Our appetizers were very tasty, once received.

But then we waited and waited for her to reappear so we could place our entree order. By now, it was 7:30.

The server came by at long last, asked if there was anything else that we wanted. We said yes, we wanted to order our entrees! I got a feeling of absolute lack of control of her assigned tables.
We also asked (for the second time, we asked this when we ordered our appetizers) if she could please light the candle at our table. Never happened.

She brought some breadsticks to the table. We goshed on those and again waited and waited for our entrees.
One of the bussers stopped at our table and asked if we needed anything and my wife said, “Yes, our food!”
It was now 8:05.
There was a table of four behind us who arrived at the same time, and that table had already turned.

We flagged down the manager, and said we just wanted our check. He apologized, and offered to box up our entrees to go.
He did not charge us for the entrees, and when we ate them at home, we both agreed, they were delicious. But the service this evening made for a very unpleasant dining experience.

I don’t think this all should hinge upon the server. Someone at a management level should have noticed this couple sitting and obviously waiting, and done what they could to facilitate proper service. Admittedly, I should have been more vocal earlier on, but I really shouldn’t have to do that.

We have been to Varanese many times, and every time we dine there it is an above and beyond experience. This evening we went with our entire family, and they were able to accommodate us, even when they had another large event coinciding. The waitress was considerate, knowledgeable and attentive. The manager checked on us a couple times and was very gracious. The food was simply delicious and perfectly prepared. When dining at Varanese you get the full experience of an excellent restaurant – delicious food, a beautiful ambiance and exquisite service. We are fortunate to have such a consistently good restaurant in our Louisville area.

Had a wonderful Valentine’s weekend dinner here, loud, but that is expected for a packed restaurant. Lamb Shank Osso Buco and that weekend’s Surg and Turf Special for entrees, Crab Stuffed Avocado appetizer, and bread pudding dessert. It was all amazing and thr service was outstanding!

Absolutely everything was fantastic here. We went for our 11th anniversary. The steak, shrimp, and crab cakes were the best in Louisville. Service was impeccable, and the espresso martinis wonderful. For the level of service and quality of food, I expected it to cost much more than it did. 10/10 restaurant all around.

We went there for an early December anniversary, so holiday celebrations had begun. Street parking was full, so we used the valet. Reservations had been made and restaurant was full and lots of energy. The food was nicely prepared, and as ordered. Wine list was good, 2-3x markup…about average for this level. Elk chops and Ky strip were good choices. Combo played Holiday favorites at a pleasant level. They comped us an awesome sampler desert and all sang Happy Anniversary in Sombreros ( just kidding about the last part) Everyone(even the valet) wished us a happy annivetsary. Great experience! Would recommend.

We tried Varanese last weekend and it’s ALL I can think about! I have a garlic intolerance and it’s very difficult for me to have an enjoyable meal. The server was so sweet and shared many options without garlic. She made me feel like I wasn’t a burden and took excellent care of us (wish I could remember her name).

I had the Caramelized Orange Bourbon Salmon and WOW. Best dish I’ve had in years. The grits were heavenly. Such a comforting dish. I can’t remember what my husband ordered (it’s pictured) but he said he loved it and would order his again (the best compliment when it comes to food for him lol).

I plan to visit within the next week just to have it again. Well done! Beautiful atmosphere, on-top-of-it service, amazing value, AND the music really made the perfect setting for a date night.

My wife and I enjoyed a great birthday dinner at Varanese last night. From the parking valet to the wait staff to the chef, everyone was courteous and attentive to our needs. It could be noisy, but we were tucked in a cozy corner. As close to perfect as we could’ve asked.

Varanese is fabulous! Hands down one of best places in town! Never disappoints! We have been dining here frequently several years now, and will continue to do so. The ambience, the service and the quality of food are all top-notch. Dave and his staff always do an excellent job, Attentive, professional, and friendly service. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. And they’ve got some of the best cocktails around. Burnt Lemon old-fashioned is one of the best drinks in town!
The place looks great with the recent remodeling and refresh, they’ve done a great job and it has made an already great atmosphere even better!

Zoe is the reason for the bad review. Soon as we sat down we were not welcomed. She had some kind of attitude, her mind seemed elsewhere and not friendly. This place didn’t feel like an Italian restaurant. I was expecting the traditional Italian choices. The shrimp pasta was covered in way to much cheese. The seafood pasta flavor was alright. The crab in avocado was different and not bad. There was a guy setting up drums 6 feet from our table, thank God we left before he started to play. The cute hostess very sweet and friendly, super welcoming.
