12-07-2025-I ordered spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread. The garlic bread was the size for a three year-old. It was so small. I was so disappointed. I don’t expect the whole loaf but I did expect a good size especially for nine dollars. We also ordered a medium size Don from the menu which was $20 for a medium size pizza pretty pricey, considering that the flavor wasn’t all that so very disappointed but not a lot of options in Mathis Texas. I would drive to CalAllen before going back to Van’s..

Not sure what happened to this great little pizza place. Greeted by a very smoky restaurant. Minimal pepperoni on pizza. Only pickle chips available with sandwich. Servers did not come to table to ask if refills needed. Failed to turn in to go order when pizza brought out. Had to ask twice for a box. Slow when we arrived but was busy when we left. Very noisy.

What a gem in the small town of Mathis! The street taco pizza is great, and so was the buffalo chicken. My kid loved the pepperoni as well. The Greek Salad was also to die for! The service was supurb and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Your hours are a bit aggressive, but other than that, it’s perfect!

Very delicious pizza and nicely crisp wings. Wings took a little while and came out after pizza. Wish we had them as an appetizer but they do take a bit longer to cook. Still well worth it.
Service was great. Sadie was pleasant and attentive.
Only complaint is the ranch. It sucked. Didn’t taste homemade and was creamy not buttermilk ranchy. I’ll just bring mine next time. Maybe next weekend, again.

It was extremely disappointing, especially after seeing all the sublime reviews. I was really expecting a pizza worthy of such high Google Review praise. My expectations hit a brick wall and then fell down a well.
First of all, the margherita pizza doesn’t even look or taste like a margherita pizza. I’m not even sure if they know what it’s supposed to look like.
It’s like someone accidentally dropped the basil leaves into a meat grinder. And if you want to be more visually accurate, it looks more like someone was mowing a lawn next to the pizza.
But looks aren’t everything, what does it taste like? Rubbery cheese with barely any sauce, barely any flavor. It’s like gnawing on a brick of string cheese. The pizza itself is a bit too oily, and the crust, bless my heart, the CRUST was disgustingly burnt in some areas. I’m not exaggerating, just look at the pictures.
I would give this place 1 Star if the staff wasn’t pleasant or if I had a chance to sit down and eat there. I’ve had school pizzas with more integrity than this.
I really wanted to enjoy the food here, but the pizza was simply not good.

12/9/25 updating my review to 1 star wish there was a 0. Called in a pizza order and asked for the all meat pizza. The girl on the phone said, yes, that’s the Don. I said okay i want a large with no meatballs and add extra beef. Shw said it qould ne ready in 10 minutes. I show up and wait for my pizza to be done. About to get in my car and i smell bell peppers so i open the box and i have a large combination pizza Full of vegetables. I went back in and told the same girl, I called and asked for the pizza with all meat. That has vegetables. She opens the menu and replies Yes that is our veraion of the combination pizza. I pointed below and i showed her the pizza that said it had all 6 of the meats. She looked dumb founded like she had never heard of that pizza. I told her to give the pizza to someone for free. I didnt have time to wait for another pizza to cook. I’ll deal with the joke of a pizza hut we have before i go back here again. Shame. It used to be great pizza and service. Last 2 timees were a joke. Called in a pizza order and went in for carryout. Everything went smooth. Paid with my CashApp card, left a tip and kiosk asked if I wanted a receipt. Got home and not long after I received a call from Vans Pizza. The young lady on the phone informed me that she helped me and everything went well when I was there but their system didn’t show they received my payment. I checked my App and let her know the payment with four others that day, was pending. She asked me to repay over the phone and if it went through, I would receive a refund within 7 business days. I didn’t really have the money to pay twice but she really seemed concerned that the payment didn’t go through. So I agreed to pay again over the phone. The next day I realized BOTH payments went through. So I called and had to explain to someone other than I spoke with the situation. I asked to speak to a manager and I heard the young lady say… Who wants to be the manager? I explained again to the “Manager” and she said she was not at the level to give refunds but would get back to me. She did and told me I should receive the refund within 7 days and if not they would refund me cash. This company needs to realize not everyone has $50 to spend in this economy. The correct way to handle this would have been to wait till the next day to see if the payment went through. Not put the burden on the customer for a week. I will be trying Gigis pizza in the future.

This place was a really nice stop on our way to South Padre from San Antonio. We ended up getting a large pizza, a salad, spaghetti w/ meatballs, and a keto friendly pizza. The food was very good. The place was a little bit smokey for some reason and the lights were flickering. The service was good. The prices were amazing for today’s market. I will definitely return to this place.

We stopped here on the way from South Padre to Austin. We ordered a pizza and cheese sticks and they were great! It was a good place to stop for lunch with our almost 2 year old. The only downside was that the restaurant was pretty smoky inside from the oven and there was no changing table for the kiddo.

We had the La Rueda Pizza, and it was excellent! Good, friendly service. Wait time for pizza was normal. Clean and well kept restaurant.

My first time to order. The young woman that had my pizza was courteous and prompt.
The toppings were fresh but the crust was not really cooked as a thin pizza normally is. I know that’s subjective but my take on it. Needed to be baked a few minutes longer. The flavor was great and we enjoyed the crust.
I’ll be back for sure and give the subs a try!
