I love this place. I wish there were more rooftop venues around. The ambience is fantastic. Super cozy and the outdoor fire pits are great for having good conversation. We ordered the charcuterie board, the fries, calamari, and the fish and chips and they were all fantastic. Also the skillet cookie was great too!

Made a reservation for a Friday night, good thing because it was busy. But the food and drinks were delicious. The charcuterie board was really well put together and the drinks matched perfectly. The service was a little slow, but not terrible considering how busy. The atmosphere was rich and romantic. Great views and not too loud to have conversations. Will definitely visit again!

We were here for 2 special events. The rooftop views of the skyline and mountains at Van Ryder are stunning. The décor is sleek and modern. The staff had limited English, which made communication a bit tricky at times. The omelet station for breakfast was delicious! Some of the fried food was cold and hard but that was expected for a buffet. The dinner buffet was great though. The atmosphere and the view make it worth a visit.

We had such a great experience! The food was so good, and the view truly made the whole evening even more special.

A big highlight was the service. Andres, our server, was fantastic, very attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. Cari, the manager, was genuinely warm and welcoming, which really added to the experience and made us feel appreciated as guests.

I stopped at Van Ryder in Salt Lake City, a rooftop bar and restaurant, and the atmosphere really pulled it all together. Sitting up there with the view of the city and the Delta Center across the way made the whole place feel elegant and relaxed at the same time.

I ordered the BYO Pork Carnitas, which came with smoked carnitas, grandma’s secret salsa, smashed avocado, and warm corn tortillas with limes. The plate was simple, but that actually made it feel more refined. The carnitas were moist, full of flavor, and really good. The other ingredients were straightforward but done right. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top, just solid and tasty.

If I had one note, it is that the staff could have been a little more attentive. That aside, the food, the view, and the atmosphere worked really well together. It was a good experience and definitely a solid choice.

Rating: 4 out of 5. Delicious carnitas, beautiful rooftop setting, worth checking out.

Don’t get your hopes up, this place is average at best. They sat us in the worst spot when there were 2 open tables that could have accommodated us. We even had a reservation. We order the most expensive entree (85$) which was A large platter of smoked meat along with an appetizer of fries. Low and behold our platter came with fries. It didn’t say that on the menu and our waiter didn’t let us know. So we had two huge portions of fries which were mid. All of the meat on the tray was either dry or super fatty. The rolls on the platter were totally store bought and cheap. The sides and sauces were not great and didn’t go with the meats. The only positive was getting our valet paid for because we purchased the entree. This place would be nice in the summer if you wanted to get some expensive drinks with a view but other than that, don’t waste your time.

We came to Van Ryder specifically for their advertised Galentine’s event, and I have to say, the marketing team deserves a pat on the back, while the kitchen needs an immediate group meeting.

Let’s start with the positives:
The rooftop views are gorgeous. The mocktails were actually great. And our server, Kyle? So attentive and sweet. Zero complaints there.

Now.

We came because Van Ryder heavily advertised a “sweet charcuterie board” for Galentine’s Day. The social media posts showed adorable pink-and-red cookies, fresh chocolate-dipped strawberries, a whole cute, instagrammable and shareable spread. The menu said it feeds 2-3 and was promoted as something to share with your girlfriends.

What arrived at our table for $32 was… performance art at best, and a cruel joke at worst.

Three cookies so stale we genuinely questioned if they were sourced from a Trader Joe’s clearance bin in 2023. But still, we tried. We struggled to physically eat these hockey pucks of desserts.
Mini cupcakes – eh, fine. Though we didn’t finish them.
“Chocolate fudge” that tasted like it had been aged in a crawl space.
And the worst part: the “cheesecake bites,” which were, and I say this with full honesty, balls of rolled cream cheese. Not cheesecake. Not even pretending to be cheesecake. Just straight up globs of cream cheese.

There were also three of everything except the cream cheese balls, so we’re fairly certain one rolled off the plate somewhere en route to our table and it’s just aging away on the floor up there somewhere.

When this hit the table, our friend immediately said, “That’s it?” and we all started laughing because we genuinely thought we were being pranked. The servers (again, not their fault at all) checked with the chef, who apparently said it was “designed for two.” Respectfully, the term “designed” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

If this feeds two, those two people have already eaten dinner. And dessert. And perhaps lost their sense of expectation as well as taste.

It’s frustrating because the event was marketed as a cute, shareable group experience for your gals. What we got felt wildly misrepresented. If the board had matched the advertisement (or if they had taken it off the bill following our conversation, which they did not) we would not be writing this review.

There are so many great spots to eat within walking distance in downtown SLC. If you want the view, absolutely go upstairs, take some photos, enjoy the skyline… and then go somewhere else.

Kyle, you were a star.
Marketing team, stunning work. Wish we got what YOU shared!
Sweet board, please seek help. Or the trash can.

I reserved a table for 6 people but arrived 40 minutes late. When we inquired about the reservation, it seemed the table was no longer available. However, Esther kindly helped us and found us a table; she literally saved me!
Excellent service and attention, perfect for a celebratory night.
