When I’m in Richmond and feel like Asian food I always end up back at Van Mai. In the 19 months coming here the food has never dissapointed me. I’ve tried various dishes and today had the Mongolian beef with rice. It was full of flavour and decent size and price. I’ll be here until Wednesday and spewing they are not open on Monday and Tuesday … I’ll definitely be back again. It’s my number 1 place at the moment for takeaway.

Working my way through all the chicken pho spots on Vic Street, Van Mai was a solid under-the-radar find. The pho itself was a neutral, hearty chicken style — not heavy on onion or strong flavours like some other places, which I really enjoyed. Broth was lighter and less oily than others I’ve had.
The chicken portion looked good in the photos, but I wanted more protein and added an extra serve for $5. Not sure if it was fully worth $5, but it tasted great nonetheless.
The restaurant itself is huge but was quiet when I visited at lunch, which made it a peaceful spot to enjoy the meal. Service was attentive — one staff member brought water as soon as I walked in and managed the floor alone. Bean sprouts were fresh, and sharing bowls and cutlery were already on the table, which is a nice touch.
Overall, a solid chicken pho spot if you want something light, hearty, and fuss-free.

We mistakenly thought the place was open, but it turned out they were only serving a small group of tourists. We could smell the delicious food from the street and decided to walk in. The owner kindly welcomed us and took our order.
We enjoyed a delicious Pho and freshly made chicken ribs, prepared just for the two of us! The Pho broth was rich and perfectly balanced with a subtle hint of sweetness. The chicken ribs were moist, flavorful, and wonderfully crispy.
We’ll definitely be back during their regular opening hours!

Good Vietnamese in Richmond 3121. I’ve been to this restaurant for many years. I like their Vietnamese shredded chicken salad, Special friend rice, Sizzling mongolian beef. I just noticed the last few months their serving size got smaller and price went up. Their food and service are good.

Can recommend a stop in, order anything (or everything), you certainly will not be disappointed.
We had the pork and wonton soup, pork chop rice and fried eggplant. It was properly enough food for 4 people but had gave it our best. In the end we took takeaway for the next days lunch.
Grabs a Vietnamese beer, we had a couple of 333s, they went down perfectly with the food.

Traditional vietnamese restaurant where you can order noodle/rice dishes along with main dishes to share. The chicken Pho broth was good. The dry noodle was seasoned nicely too. However the chicken pieces and the pork pieces in both noodles are tough and dry. Place is a little dark and not the cleanest place around.

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday, place was really quiet. They have just started offering lunch specials for 15 dollars. Work mate ordered the vermicelli, which wasn’t in the main picture on the advert but we then discovered after ordering in small print, it was included. Would’ve been good if the waiter told us upon ordering that it was part of the $15 lunch deal, I think it is $11 on its own. The chicken salad is great here and I would definitely come back for it.
