First time here and the staff was so friendly. The food was delicious and you have to try the crab and shrimp dip. The hushpuppies were super good too!

Went and sat at the bar, no one was there. Took 20 minutes to get a drink. Waitress was more concerned about her friends that were sitting behind us than waiting on us. We had party of four. I ordered a full peck of oytsers medium. We’ll they came out well done and poor kids that were shucking them didn’t really know what they were doing. Asked for hush puppies waited 20 minutes for those. This place has lost the love for the food and hospitality. Way too many young kids running this place. Would not recommend to anyone. Better off going to sandpiper seafood in Lagrange. There oysters have always been cooked right. I took care of $200 bill for 4 of us and will never go back. Drinks and food sucked

I ordered a order of fried shrimp to go they were so good but seriously there were 8 shrimp in this order i like to passed out i could not beleive it. I also go chicken tenders and a loaded back potato. The three tenders were for a three year old and please tell me whatbcomes on a loaded baked potatoe. I some cole slaw and a thing of sour cream. I have never hear of putting cole slaw on a bake potato. I was on the outside of goldsboro when i opened this disqusting food. The youg landy was new that was ringing me up and the the other waitress were so nice but will never eat there again. For what i paid for that i could eat twice at pop eyes. Even it there wouldnt had been a lot of food i could delt with it asgood as thise shrimp taste. But after the baked potato deal. Vail house. If this is what you call a loaded potato. Rethink your menu. Or somebody just got my order all mest up. And i really hate that i had been looking forward to eating their and this is a no for me for now on.

The oysters with the collards and cheese were delicious. The lobster roll was great but I felt like it been better with melted cheese added. It isn’t big it’s a roll and come with 1 side in which I choose mac and cheese. I wasn’t a fan of the Mac and cheese it wasn’t thick and cheesy it was loose and watery but after salt and pepper it was ok but wish I’d gotten collards or potatoes salad instead. The potatoes salad was good and judging by the collards on the oysters I’m sure alone they be amazing. I will try the next visit. I taste the flounder it was good as well the scallops. The hushpuppies they bring out are amazing. The ahi tuna appetizer is pretty good. I do wish I had ginger to go with it. I didn’t ask if they had any but I think that would have given it a little more razzle dazzle. We did order drinks in which I didn’t post but they were both cocktails the first two listed on their drink menu and they were delicious. Over all I gave 4 stars only because of the mac and cheese. Also service was great. Nice and kind young man served us and it was quick. It wasn’t many people their at the time which made our experience even better.

The Vailhouse is a cute local place that serves seafood and straightforward fare.

Ordered the grouper bites for an appetizer. They were delicious, though they came out as strip and I was expecting something more nugget shaped. No problem though since they were hot and the grouper was definitely fresh.

Also ordered six raw oysters and a half pound of steamed shrimp. The oysters were great, the shrimp were fine. (They had a slightly bitter flavor). To be fair the last restaurant I ate at was Southern Salt in Morehead where I had the best shrimp I’ve ever had. That’s a tough act to follow.

Our server was terrible. It took 5 minutes before she came to the table to get a drink order. I had to ask another server to bring us the complimentary hush puppies that every other table received as soon as they sat down and we were finished with out meal before she came back to check on us.

We just got unlucky though. It was obvious that the other waitstaff were hustling and providing the tables around us with competent attentive service. The busboy was even more engaged that our waitress. She looked like she was the youngest of the crew and didn’t appear to enjoy the work. If you have the option, try to get one of the more seasoned waitstaff.

The decor is perfect for the presentation of seafood. They did a fantastic job taking a restaurant in a strip mall and elevating it a bit. They do have outdoor seating, a nice plus though I sat inside. The lighting was a little too bright and stark for dinner. Slightly dimming the lights would make it a bit more romantic in the evening but that’s just a personal preference.

There was a young man playing guitar on a Saturday night, Eli (didn’t catch his kast name) …he was excellent.

I’ll definitely be back though next time I will opt to sit at the bar.

Great menu items and super service. The bang bang shrimp are the best item on the menu in my opinion. The menu selections are all good. If you are feeling brave and like HOT stuff you have to try the ghost oyster challenge! Whatever you order it’s sure to please.

Ive eaten here 2 times in the last mth. 1st time had great fried oysters. 2nd time I went in, there was just 2 other people in at 1230 on a Saturday. I had seen lobster rolls and was excited to have them. I have an office in Cary and eat at Mason’s Lobster rolls every other week. Have had a lot on my trips to Maine also. When it came it was about half the size of one’s at other places. I taster a small tip and it tasted spoiled, I tried another bite from the sandwich and it was cold. The menu stated steamed with butter. I told the waitress and she went to back and said the owner said that it was how it was supposed to be. I didn’t eat it. What pissed me off the most was the owner NEVER came out and talked to me about it. Ive ran 2 fine dining restaurants in the past and I always talked to All my customers ever night I worked. Ill never go back there. If he doesn’t care about his customers anymore than that he doesn’t need to be in the restaurant business. And he is close to the shore, so why is he selling frozen seafood? Lots of better places to eat that appreciate their customers.

It’s definitely worth the drive. The seafood was delicious, and the service was great. We will visit again when we’re in the area. The plate with the grilled shrimp had a few missing by the time I thought to take a picture. Servings were plentiful!

Worst lobster roll I have ever had, picture attached. The waitress was honestly really nice and didn’t even seem confused when I told her it was disgusting. It’s almost like she already knew what I was gonna say. The atmosphere is mostly regulars but also has a dive bar feel(nothing wrong with that)
